Storm Collectibles Mortal Kombat Scorpion – Toyark Photo Shoot

By Joe Moore on August 25, 2017 at 9:58 am under Random Photo Shoot, Video Game Toy News

Yesterday I reviewed the excellent Mortal Kombat – Sub-Zero 1/12 Scale Figure by Storm Collectibles. The figure was a great kick off to the new Mortal Kombat line by Storm. With a great sculpt and top notch articulation, I felt it was a must own figure for fans of the game series. Today I continue our reviews with a look at Sub-Zero’s arch-enemy; the Netherrealm demon known as Scorpion. Much like the early games in the franchise, Scorpion shares the same sculpt as Sub-Zero, but includes his own set of unique accessories. I picked up the figure courtesy of Toyark sponsor Entertainment Earth. Read on for my thoughts on the figure as well as a full gallery.

Pros

  • Excellent sculpt
  • Great articulation and range of motion
  • Strong joints allow for dynamic posing with no stand needed
  • Fatality effects pieces and spears among the great accessories here
  • Interchangeable MK1 and MK2 masks
  • Skull head sculpt even has an articulated jaw

Cons

  • Hands do tend to pop off a little too easily

Overall
Scorpion uses the same collector friendly packaging style as Sub-Zero. the only differences is the artwork, photos and bio have, obviously, been replaced with Scorpion themed items. Included along side the figure are multiple interchangeable hands, swappable MK1 and MK2 masks, an interchangeable skull head sculpt, a thrown spear, a relaxed spear, and fatality flame effects pieces.

Since this uses the same overall sculpt as Sub-Zero, check out that review for a more detailed breakdown of the figure itself. the short version is that the sculpt, paint work and articulation are all excellent here. Scorpion does suffer from the same issue with his hands easily popping off a little too easily. What sets this figure apart from Sub-Zero are the numerous accessories included, all perfectly themed for Scorpion. The two included spear effects work really well. the thrown spear simply attaches below the palm, at the connection point to the wrist. It’s sturdy enough, and light enough, to stay perfectly straight with Scorpion’s arm outstretched. The relaxed spear fits nicely in one of the many interchangeable hands included with the figure. The best pieces included, much like sub-Zero, are the fatality parts. For Scorpion’s fatality, the figure includes an interchangeable Skull head sculpt (complete with articulated jaw), and two flame effects pieces. It works well and looks great. If you have access to it (I did not), combine it with the new Flame Effects piece from Tamashii Nations for a full fatality display. One last added bonus is that you can use the bloody skull from Sub-Zero’s spine rip fatality as an extra head sculpt.

After messing with both figures, I can honestly say that both are absolute must owns for Mortal Kombat fans. I had a blast creating fight scenes across both photo shoots and the figures offer plenty of display options. Scorpion combines a strong base figure with excellent accessories for a great overall figure. Check out some highlight photos below and the full gallery after that.
