One of two figures released for Mass Effect: Andromeda, Sara Ryder is the twin sister of Scott Ryder. They are the main protagonists of the most recent release in the massively popular Mass effect series of video games. Sara signs up for the Andromeda Initiative, alongside her her father and sister, obtaining a part in the Pathfinder team. They are chosen to find and establish a new home for humanity in the distant Andromeda galaxy 600 years into the future. The Sara Ryder figure is a 7″ scale figure and part of the McFarlane Toys Color Tops Collection. The figure includes interchangeable masked and unmasked head sculpts, a Camifex Assasult Rifle and a Mass Effect logo base.
The Sara Ryder figure is in stores now. McFarlane Toys sent along the figure for us to check out. After the jump find my thoughts on the figure and all of the photos.

Overall
The figure comes packaged in the standard Color Tops packaging, which is a collector friendly window box. The packaging features some Mass Effect design elements. The back has a couple of photos of Sara, and not much else. The figure sits on a plastic tray, which you can place the figure back in easily for display or storage. Sara includes a helmeted head sculpt, an unhelemeted head sculpt, a standard Camifex Assasult Rifle and a logo figure base.
Sara is a major step up over many of the older Color Tops releases. Like those, Sara has a really solid sculpt. The figure looks very much like her video game counterpart. Here she sports the N7 suit design made popular in the first Mass Effect games. The armor sports numerous scuff marks and scratches to simulate a bit of battle damage. the paint work is mostly good here, though a few small issues creep up. The errors mainly have to do with the red paint on the armor, as there are a few spots where it bleeds over into other areas. It’s not overly distracting, but is noticeable when looking closer at the figure. The paint apps on the head sculpts are handled very well tho. Paint on the eyes, lips, eyebrows and hair are all aligned properly and look great. The articulation is where improvements have crept in over the years. Earlier Color Tops were essentially static figures. The Sara Ryder figure is far from that. She sports excellent upper body articulation. she’s easily able to grip the included pistol with both hands and the range of motion is excellent. The hips are really he only issue here. While they do allow for some movement, the design keeps them from having a full, natural range of motion. Overall, it’s a huge step in the right direction and allows you to really display the figure however you’d like.
With this release, McFarlane gives Mass Effect fans a very good figure that takes the great sculpt of earlier Color Tops releases, and adds in most of the articulation action figure fans want. It’s not perfect, but is definitely a worthwhile pick up for fans of the game. See some select photos below and the full gallery after that.
