McFarlane Destiny 7-Inch Scale Figures – Toyark Photo Shoot

By Joe Moore on September 15, 2017 at 11:40 am under Random Photo Shoot, Video Game Toy News

Destiny is an insanely popular multi-player first person shooter that is available for last gen and current gen consoles. It was developed by the talented folks at Bungie, who had previously worked on the legendary Halo franchise. While the original game was released in 2014, this month saw the release of the highly anticipated Destiny 2 PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC’s. The first assortment of Destiny figures are now available in stores from McFarlane Toys. These 7″ scale figures, part of their Color Tops Collection, features different versions of The Hunter, The Warlock and the Titan from the original game. Each figure includes weapons, a figure stand and a Ghost. McFarlane Toys sent along the first seven figures from the line for us to check out. Included are:

  • Iron Banner Hunter
  • King’s Fall Warlock
  • Vault of Glass Titan
  • Warlock Hallow Shader with Light Beyond Nemesis Helmet – Gamestop Exclusive
  • Titan Amduat Ink Shader with Helm of Saint-14 Helmet – target Exclusive
  • Hunter Blacksmith Shader with Celestial Nighthawk Helmet – Walgreens Exclusive
  • Hunter Million Million Shader – Walmart Exclusive

After the jump you can find over 50 photos and my thoughts on the figures.

Destiny 7-Inch Scale Figures by McFarlane Toys

Pros

  • Excellent sculpts
  • Nice, detailed paint work
  • Solid articulation
  • All new, much better, hip design on all figures
  • Great weapons

Cons

  • Some sculpts limit range of motion
  • Pegs on some of the guns aren’t removable

Overall
As part of the color Tops Collection, the Destiny figures are packaged in collector friendly window boxes. Each box has minimal design elements, but are clean and do a nice job of showing off the figures inside. The back of the boxes include check lists for the standard or exclusive versions of the figures. The figures include weapons, a Ghost and figure stands. Some also include the wolf helmets.

For the Destiny figures, McFarlane Toys took some big steps in the right direction, finally giving in and making the figures fully (well, mostly fully) articulated. The Destiny figures includes a much better set of articulation points than any prior Color Tops release, including newly designed hips for all of the figures in the line. The hips are reminiscent of the designs you would see on a Diamond Select Toys figure or even the McFarlane 5″ scale figures. While those are nice steps forward, a few sculpting decisions cause some of the figures to take a step back in terms of range of motion. The bulky armor and some of the outfits hinder range of motion, preventing some figures, such as the Warlock, from properly holding their guns. By comparison, the Hunter figures have a much greater range of movement. The Million Million Shader Hunter can actually wield his sword with both hands and still get some nice movement, with about 16 points of articulation. Those looking for Figuarts level of articulation or range of motion aren’t going to find it here. These are more in line with the regular articulated figures by NECA (single jointed knees and elbows, etc.). A NECA figure will have better movement in their joints, but this is about the closest equivalent I can think of. The Destiny figures aren’t statues with useless articulation, which is nice to see.

The sculpts on these figures are quite good. The detail level is great, and the models look fairly accurate to the in-game designs. The armor pieces have some nice, intricate design work. The included weapons are equally nice looking, with each of the guns having strong detail work. Each weapon includes a peg that will allow you to attach to the figures leg and/or back (depending on the weapon itself). The paint application is handled nicely. There’s some nice metallic flecks in parts of the armor on the figures, giving the various pieces a cool battle worn look. Overall, the figures look good in hand, especially when displayed together. Check out some select photos below and the full gallery after that.
