Luke with X-34 Landspeeder Retail Version – Star Wars Black Series Vehicles Photo Review

By Tony_Bacala on September 29, 2017 at 12:00 pm under Random Photo Shoot, Star Wars Toy News

The second Black Series vehicle to drop during Star Wars The Last Jedi toy releases is the retail edition of Luke Skywalker and his X-34 Landspeeder.  This was Luke’s ride while on Tatooine before going off planet in A New Hope.  The figure and vehicle were released at San Diego Comic Con 2017 as an exclusive, which we did an in depth gallery for here.  This is the same thing, with some changes, both major an minor, to the figure and vehicle.  Read on to check out what’s different and see over 40 HD images courtesy of Dorkside Toys!

Overall Thoughts

On a base level, this is the same as the SDCC version.  Anyone who didn’t want to pay a premium for the exclusive, or missed out, shouldn’t be disappointed.  There are however, differences which I’ll map out below.

  • Less “dirty weathering” outside and the engine areas on the retail edition.
  • Darker seats on the retail edition
  • Missing color details on panels in the cabin of the retail edition
  • No moving engine parts on the retail edition
  • Luke has thicker fabric tunic, like first release of figure by himself, on the retail edition
  • No paint wash for skin on retail edition of figure
  • Hair is darker on retail edition of figure
  • Pants are darker on retail edition of figure

So, while nothing groundbreaking, there are differences.  The only major thing is the spinning engine feature of the SDCC version which is completely removed here.  Also not a huge deal.  The tunic on the SDCC version is much thinner fabric, to the point it’s see through, and that was supposed to be an enhancement, but neither are fantastic IMO.  On it’s own, this is a great Vehicle and worthy addition to a Black Series shelf, especially if you are focused on OT.  Pairing with Ben and the Droids, a couple Sandtroopers, it’s perfect.

Luke, it’s the 9th or 10th Black Series version of him, and none are really on point.  They are all basic representations of that era of Luke, but none shine as “The one”.  The closest was the very first release.  This face is better than the first release of the Tatooine Luke, but it’s very animated, almost dollish. The lack of finishing on the skin here makes that more noticeable.

Bottom line, it’s a pick up for the vehicle.
