DC Icons is coming to an end with the arrival of DC Essentials next year, but we still have some before that happens! Select figures from the later waves that never released are dropping at the end of 2017, and one of those is the Super Sons 2 pack. This features Rebirth versions of Damian Wayne and Jon Kent in the small-ish 6 inch scale, meaning they are more like 4 inches or so. Each come with additional hands, Damian has hands with batarangs, along with a staff weapon. Jon has a clear riser so he can hover behind Damian. The sculpts and paint are fantastic overall. Overall Thoughts:
I was looking forward to this set since it was unveiled. I dig the Super Sons angle in the modern comics, and this is the best version of Damian Wayne we’ve got in a while. They are a little small, since Icons as a whole ran small, but still wanted them. My particular set had some QC issues that was a bummer. Damian’s cape was bent upward as it went through the plastic bubble. This left a crease and some paint wore off because of that. A hair dryer worked it out so he wasn’t in perpetual falling from the sky mode though. On Jon, his arms were misaligned at the shoulder joints. One stuck out too far, and one was pushed in too far. Impossible to get a normal resting pose due to this. I haven’t run into major DC Collectibles QC issues in a couple years, so hopefully this was just a one off situation. If you are picking this up, just check the window before you open.
Aside from all that, it’s a great set. They’ll be staying in rotation even after Icons is fully done and they’re retired from my shelves. If you grabbed the Rebirth 7 pack earlier in the year, they pair perfectly with Batman and Superman. If you didn’t, Rebirth Batman and Superman will be released before the end of 2017 individually. I just hope we get similar figures in the upcoming Essentials line, because a little extra bulk and height would do them justice.
