The Onion Knight is here! During San Diego Comic-Con 2017, Gecco was offering their exclusive Dark Souls 3 – Siegmeyer of Catarina 1/6 Scale Statue. They also made a limited amount available worldwide, and the statue has now shipped out to retailers and those who pre-ordered. In the U.S.A. it is being distributed by Diamond Comics. In the game, the Siegmeyer of Catarina is a NPC (non-playable character) that you encounter multiple times throughout your adventure. His optimistic nature and tendency to be napping when you find him has made him a fan favorite. The Siegmeyer of Catarina is often referred to as the “Onion Knight” due to the style of his armor.

Overall
Much like the Souls of Cinder, the Siegmeyer of Catarina comes packaged in a large, windowless box. The box features a great Dark Souls themed design, with artwork of the statue and detailed filigree art throughout. On one side of the box, you get details on the Siegmeyer of Catarina. The other side panel offers details on the various artists who worked on the statue. Inside, the statue is packed in a solid foam tray. Light assembly is required, including standing the statue on the included base and placing the hands onto the wrists. Instructions are included to ensure the hands are placed in the correct positions. You can easily disassemble the statue and place back into the packaging for storage if needed.
I’ve not yet played Dark Souls 3, but do know a few people who do. The Onion Knight seems to be one of the most unexpectedly popular parts of the game. The statue here looks to capture the look of the character quite well. He stands over 14.5″ tall, ready to take on an adventure…Or get lost in thought, as he tends to do. The sculpted detail is excellent from head to toe. The armor features nicely sculpted dents, scratches and gashes. There’s nice change is textures as you move from the armored pieces to the chain mail and then to the small amount of exposed cloth pieces of his outfit. The sword and shield are separately sculpted and can be adjusted a bit. A nice bt of a bonus is that you can actually peer into the helmet slit and see the Siegmeyer of Catarina’s face inside the helmet. Complimenting the sculpt is a gorgeous paint deco. It’s hard to convey in photos, but the armor has a wonderful pearl-like shine to it. That iridescent application is laid over numerous paint washes on the armor, bring out the battle damage details nicely. Paint lines are clean with no noticeable paint bleed or misaligned details. The statue itself is much heavier than many previous releases by Gecco. While they normally would cast the statue in PVC, here they used mainly polystone construction. This gives it much more of a traditional statue feel, while also making it far less fragile than the PVC statues.
I have no complaints about the statue. The sculpt, paint work and polystone construction all come together for a great iteration of the Onion Knight. Check out some highlight photos below and the full gallery after that.
