There are few things more terrifying as a kid than the possibility of your toys coming to life and trying to kill you. Few movies captured that terror like Child’s Play. In the film, we see dying serial killer Charles Lee Ray use dark magic to transfer his consciousness to a popular kids doll. When Karen Barclay purchases the doll from a back alley vendor, she unwittingly brings the killer doll home to her son Andy. Before long, Chucky begins murdering people close to Andy, allowing him to take the blame. Thus a franchise was born. Though the series has had its ups and downs, there’s no denying that Chucky has had some fantastic staying power as a modern horror icon.
Fans of the Child’s Play franchise have had no shortage of collectibles to pick from over the years. Be it from McFarlane, NECA, Mezco and even Funko, fans have always had some version of Chucky available to them. Until recently, it had been a few years since NECA had the license for Chucky action figures. Their Cult Classics Chucky figures were well regarded for the time it was released, but there was definitely room for improvement. When they re-acquired the license last year, they promised fans a definitive action figure release that would truly capture the spirit of the NECA Ultimate Series. They have sent along the figure for us to check out. Does it live up to expectations? Read on to find out!

Overall
Chucky is packed in a flapped window box that is used for their entire Ultimate line up. The design of the packaging pays homage to the fictional Good Guy Dolls from the Child’s Play franchise. It’s bright yellow and will absolutely stand out on toy shelves. The back of the box showcases a small portion of the display options available. With the flap opened, you get a nice photo of Chucky on the inner flap, and a nice look at the figure and the included accessories through the window. Sitting on a plastic tray, the figure is packed with weapons and interchangeable parts. Chucky includes four total swap out portraits, three additional interchangeable hands, a yard stick, four knives, a shaving razor, a baseball bat, a hammer, a pistol and a swap out blade hand. As an added bonus, a fully scaled Good Guy doll box is also included, much like the Mego release.
The figure stands at 4″ tall and has about 20 total points of articulation. Range of motion is excellent and the joints are nice and tight with no paint locking issues. With all of those accessories included, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed at first when thinking of how you want to display the figure. The available head sculpts give you versions from Child’s Play 1, 2, 3 and Bride of Chucky. Each head sculpt has matching weapons included from the films as well. The head sculpts themselves are fantastic. From the friendly face of the Good Guy doll, to the mangled face of the part 3 Chucky sculpt, there is some great detail work by NECA here. The paint work on them is handled well on them too. Features such as the freckles or blood stains are handled with precision. The stitched up Bride of Chucky head is especially handled well, with nice painful looking stitches, bloody looking cuts and a great expression. It helps that all four sculpts are so wildly different. None feel like their filler pieces.
That last statement actually applies to the whole package here. Each of the knives are very different, and the sheer number of weapons is great to see. The pieces are all pretty solid, and I didn’t notice any warping on the blades , bat or yard stick. NECA included hands that work with each of weapons. The hands, as well as the head sculpts, are easy enough to swap out. The ball jointed neck is just tight enough to require a bit of force, but never required heating to remove. The hand have small, but strong pegs they sit on and those popped on and off with no trouble at all.
At $25 it’s hard not to recommend this figure. There’s a ton of value packed in here, and none of the included pieces feels like filler. The figure is available in stores now. Check out some highlight photos below and the full gallery after that.
