Giga Armor Series Mega Man X - Toyark Photo Shoot - The Toyark

Now available from Tamashii Nations and Bluefin is the Chogokin Megaman X Giga Armor X Ver. Kanetake Ebikawa From “MEGAMAN X”, or simply known as the Giga Armor Series Mega Man X. This highly detailed Mega Man X release includes X, Rush and a full set of armor that can be used in multiple ways for both figures. You can display Mega Man X in normal mode or as the full Armored Mega Man X. Rush can combine with the armor to form the Ride Chaser vehicle, which X can ride on. The 6″ tall figure includes a mix of PVC and diecast metal. Bluefin sent along the figure for us to check out.

At $125 MSRP, the Giga Armor Series Mega Man X doesn’t come cheap. Today, I’ll delve into the figure and show that the price may very well be worth it. After the jump you can check out my thoughts on the release, as well as a full gallery.

Overall
Packed in a collector friendly windowless box, the box has vibrant photos and art that really show off the figure. In many ways, it’s a nice homage to SNES style box art. Inside, X, Rush and the armor are all packed on a plastic tray, where each piece sits tightly in their spots. You can easily place them back into the tray for storage. Instructions are included (and needed) to reconfigure into the different modes.

The base Mega Man X figure is a stellar take on the character. Sculpted detail work is excellent, with a nicely stylized design. Bandai used a variety of materials to give X a more detailed look. They used a mix of solid plastic, diecast metal and translucent plastic pieces throughout. The figure has excellent articulation, and the range of motion on the joints is equally as good. Areas like the multi-articulated neck allow for realistic movement, such as looking up and down as well as side to side and tilting. While some of the joints are visible, they work really well with X being robotic character. Paint work is clean and crisp, with nice printed text on the chest and arms. Face details are good, with sharp printed eyes. Both forearms can convert from Mega Busters to standard hands.

Rush is a fully redesigned modern robotic dog with a lot to like. The detail work is just as clean as X’s sculpting. Again ,there are multiple materials used here, with the base body being diecast, and the rest being a mix between that and plastic. The torso of the dog doesn’t have any articulation, but that needs to be study as that is where X sits when Rush is converted to vehicle mode. The legs, head and jaw are all fully articulated here, allowing for walking, standing or even sitting poses. Paint work, again, is handled nicely. The details are vibrant and clean.

The set includes numerous armor pieces that can be used a few different ways. Mainly, they can be attached to the Mega Man X figure for a fully armored X. Pieces snap into place easily, and the instructions are nicely detailed to make it simple. When assembled, you have an almost entirely new looking figure. Much of the articulation is still available, but range of motion gets a bit limited in spots, mainly the arms. Should armor tends to fall off while posing, so it’s best to pose, then place those armor pieces on. The other way the armor functions is that it can combine with Rush to form the flying vehicle known as the Ride Chaser. Assembling that is a little more complicated than combining the armor with X. Again, the instructions will prove invaluable to getting this put together correctly. X includes alternate hands that can grip onto the handlebars. He fits onto the vehicle perfectly, with his legs sliding into an open space on the sides of the vehicle which stabilizes him onto the ride. A stand is included that allows you to display the Ride Chaser hovering. Even better is that when combined with X, or used on the Ride Chaser, every bit of armor is used, so there’s no need to pack any pieces away.
