A new series of 4″ scaled figures debuted last month at GameStop stores. This exclusives series of figures are based on the popular Fallout video game series. There are four figures, each based on one of the power armors from the game. This new series allows fans to mix and match parts between the figures, as well as numerous other figures, as it uses the Glyos system for the connection points. Included are:

Overall
These come packed in collector friendly window boxes. The style of box is similar to a scaled down McFarlane Color Tops packaging. The figures sit in a plastic tray, held in by a single twist ties. The packaging itself is a little bland. While the colors of the box will be familiar to those who play the game, there’s really not much on here that screams “Fallout”. It’s basic looking and functional, but some character art and game design elements would make these really pop.
I initially wasn’t too interested in these figures. But, shortly before hitting stores, a friend of mine brought over the X-01 Armor figure. At first, I didn’t even realize what it was. the figure I was holding in my hand looked like a completely different figure compared to the product pics that were posted by GameStop. I spent a bit of time checking out the figure, saw how it works with the Glyos system, and was generally impressed for what it was. He asked if I’d be interested in samples, and I said yes. At the very least, I wanted the X-01 Armor just to have. I figured, at worst, I’d see how the others fared compared to the GameStop pics, and be able to showcase them a bit better so those who may be interested get a better idea of what these figures are.
When I got them in hand, I was still fairly impressed. The sculpts are more detailed than most ReAction style figures. They look like decent representations of the armors from the game. Paint is ok. They used silver for two of the armors, and darker grays with sprayed on highlights for the other two. Articulation is similar to most other retro style 4″ figures. It has the standard 5 points of articulation you see on those. But, since you can take these apart, there’s some added swivel motions available in the torso, arms, and legs. The heads are on ball joints, so those have a bit of extra movement to them. Parts swap out easily, and you can quickly Frankenstein together a custom armor. If you own other Glyos system figures (Such as Robo Force, Weaponeers of Monkaa, Onell Designs Glyos, and many others), then you can mix and match between those as well. With Glyos, customizing is a big part of the appeal for those fans, and these could definitely work well in their own creations.
In the end, if you’re turned off by retro style figure or not interested in Glyos, then these aren’t likely going to draw you in. For 4″ figure collectors, these offer some nice sculpts with a bit of easy customizing ability. The look good in hand, especially the X-01 and T-60, which wound up being my two favorite of the set. They’re definitely better than I expected after they were announced, and I was impressed overall for what they set out to be. So, not for everyone, but worth checking out if you like the retro ReAction style figures. Cehck out some select photos below, and the full gallery after that.
