One of the three Kaiju to emerge from the artificial portals created by the Kaiju Hybrid-Drone Jaegers in Pacific Rim: Uprising. The Kaiju known as Shrikethorn later merges with Raijin and Hakuja to form the Mega-Kaiju. This vinyl figure from Tamashii Nations is part of their SOFVI Spirits line of figures, which are meant to work alongside the Robot Spirits Jaegers. The figure is available now, and retails for roughly $59.99.

Overall
The Shrikethorn figure comes packed in a windowless box, featuring a themed design based on assets from the films marketing. There are multiple photos of the figure throughout the packaging design. The back showcases Shrikethorn with some of the other Pacific Rim releases. Inside, the figure is packaged snugly inside a folded cardboard tray. No additional accessories are included and no assembly is required.
As a pure display piece, Shrikethorn is great. The figure measures about 9″ front to back. The sculpt work here is outstanding, with intricate plating and skin detail work throughout. The head sculpt is excellent, with sharp detail work and a striking design. Paint work is equally nice, with great use of transitional colors and paint washes. There’s nice splashes of blue throughout, and a more saturated tan over top of the skin tone to add extra depth to the sculpting. Some paint sharper along areas such as the nails and teeth would be welcome, but overall this is a pretty decent looking vinyl figure. The few points of articulation that are here are hidden fairly well. You can move each arm up and down at the shoulders, and rotate the forearms. There’s a swivel for each of his tail spikes and at his waist. None of the articulation is particularly useful, as the arms are used to help keep the figure standing.
If you don’t mind the lack of articulation, then this makes a nice companion piece to the other Pacific Rim releases from Tamashii Nations. I feel the same about this that I did about Raijin. amazing looking in hand, but I just wish there was some useful articulation to allow for better battle poses with the amazingly articulated Jaegers.
