Today we have a look at the three newest figures in the Hiya Toys Aliens: Colonial Marines line up. If you missed it, we recently shared a photo shoot of the Crusher Alien and the Raven Alien, which make perfect companion pieces for this release. The newest figures include Captain Jeremy Cruz, Private Bella Clarison, and Private Jennifer Redding. These 1/18 scale figures stand roughly 3.75″ tall, making them perfect for fans of figures such as G.I. Joe. Each figure is packed with a figure stand and character appropriate weapons. The figures should be hitting retail outlets very soon, and are priced about $20 each.

Hiya Toys Aliens: Colonial Marines – Redding, Cruz, and Bella Figures

Overall
Each figure comes packaged in a collector friendly window box. The window is large enough to check out the figure and its included accessories. The box design features art from the Colonial Marines video game, while the back showcases photos of the specific figure. Each release is packed on a clamshell style tray, allowing figures to easily be place back in for storage. Redding and Bella both include Pulse Rifles, pistols and Flamethrowers. Cruz includes a Pulse Rifle, a pistol, and a shoulder lamp. All three include display bases that can be attached to each other.
Each of the figures stands between 3.75″ and 4″ tall, and scale perfectly with any of the more recent G.I. Joe lines (see the Crusher and Raven gallery for some examples). The figures have about 18 points of articulation and a really nice range of motion at the articulation points. Sculpts are on par with the previous Aliens Colonial Marines releases. The costumes and weapons features some outstanding details for such small figures. The head sculpts here are decent, with less of a need to look like specific actors, so the slightly less defined detailing there isn’t much of an issue. On the whole, the detailing is strong, especially when you look at something like Cruz’s artificial leg, the weapons and the armor. Paint work is mostly strong, with the only issue being the larger painted eyes. The detail isn’t as strong there as it could be and gives them a bit of a cartoonish look compared to the more realistic paint work on the main figures. Outside of that, the camo on the paints and armor looks good, and there’s nice small painted details, such as the names on the armor and the individual armor pieces that were sculpted on.
The figures use a bit of a softer plastic overall, but it doesn’t have the rubber-ish feeling of Hiya’s earliest releases. The early Marines did fair better than the Xenomorphs in the first assortments, and these felt a little more solid in my run through. I didn’t run into any breakage issues, paint chipping or locked joints. I had no issues getting the figures to stand or hold their guns with both hands. My one real issue comes with Bella. I’m no real fan of the Colonial Marines game. But Bella is definitely a much darker complexion in the game compared to the figure here. I do wish that was more accurate.
If you’ve already been collecting these, then the three newest figures should be nice additions to your collection. For those looking to come in now, or are just looking for generic space marines in a 1/18 scale, these will do fairly nicely. Be aware that the plastic isn’t as solid feeling as a Boss Fight release, but they do look nice on display and include some really good weapons.
