In A Nightmare On Elm St. Part 5: The Dream Child, the murderous Freddy Krueger returns using the dreams of Alice’s unborn child to once again terrorize the kids of Elm Street. As always, Freddy finds new and inventive ways to toy with is victims before he finally stries. NECA celebrates one of his more memorable scenes from the film as they present the Chef Freddy 8″ Scale Figure. The new release is part of NECA’s retro Mego style line up and features a cloth outfit, a removable chef hat and a dinner tray. The figure is available now through most online retailers.

Overall
The Chef Freddy comes packaged in the standard clamshell packaging used for many of NECA’s Mego style releases. The backer card features new art by Nathan Thomas Milliner on the front, and a picture showcasing the figure on the back. The figure includes a removable cloth chef hat and a serving tray with a removable lid.
This figure uses the standard Mego style body used on most of NECA’s 8″ tall releases. There’s about 18 points of articulation, all covered by a cloth chef outfit. Range of motion is decent, and the outfit is loose enough and thin enough to not hinder the articulation. Joints were mostly nice and solid, with noticeable tighter ankles than normal, which will really help with stability. For this release, there’s a new head sculpt based on the scene from the film. The new portrait is in line with the quality of previous Mego style Freddy releases. It has nice sculpted details and a strong paint job. There’s some really nice color variations in the burn paint, with the addition of some maroon and purple colors to add extra depth to the scarring. Paint lines are sharp and mostly clean. They eye paint application is very crisp. I hope we see this head sculpt used again at some point on a more traditional Part 5 Freddy. The included serving tray accessory is great. It’s got a nice metallic finish to it, and a very creepy doll as the main course from Greta’s death in the film.
On the downside, I was disappointed that they swapped out the open palmed left hand from the promo pics with a closed gripping hand. While this helps with holding the lid, it makes it near impossible to have Freddy hold the serving tray. The gloved hands wrist joint wasn’t quite strong enough on mine to have him properly balance the tray there.
I do like the overall look of the figure. The new portrait is quite nice and the figure does a great job of capturing the scene. I just wish there was a way to get the figure to hold the tray. This is definitely aimed at more hardcore Freddy fans, and those collectors should be pretty pleased with the release.
