In 1990, one of Stephen King’s most iconic stories was finally brought to life with the IT Television Mini-Series. The series starred Tim Curry as the killer clown known as Pennywise. A shape shifting alien creature from the void known as the Macroverse, Pennwyise would awaken every 27 to 30 years to feast on the fearful children of Derry, Maine. Pennywise appears as a friendly, yet all too frightening classic circus clown, who would crack darkly humorous jokes all while terrifying the children of The Losers club. When a new film adaptation of IT was released in 2017, it brought with it a renewed desire for collectibles based on the original adaptation.
An all-new classic Pennywise figure was recently released by NECA as part of their 7″ scale Ultimate line up. Packing interchangeable portraits and show accurate accessories, the figure captures Pennywise in all his creepy glory. We picked up the figure from sponsor Entertainment Earth. IT 1990 – Ultimate Pennywise 7″ Scale Figure by NECA

Overall
The figure comes packaged in a rather large flapped window box. The front features the iconic classic IT poster on the front. The back showcases the different display options of the figure, as well as giving a bit of info on the story. Pennywise sits in a plastic tray with no twist ties. The figure includes a total of four interchangeable portraits, multiple interchangeable hands, seven balloons, a paper boat, and a noise maker.
Featuring an all-new sculpt, the Pennywise figure looks absolutely great in person. The overall sculpt does a great job at capturing the look of the classic, baggy clown suit worn in the film. There’s noticeable texture works on each area, including the skin and outfit. There’s a good amount of articulation here, including a ball jointed torso and double jointed elbows. Joints were nice and tight with no breakages or paint locking issues. Pennywise can be a bit hard to stand when trying to pose his legs, as the feet are fairly small and don’t have a lot of wiggle room to adjust the ankles. Hands swapped out very easily, as the peg is attached to the individual hands. The portraits are a little more difficult to swap out, as that connection is really tight. After swapping he heads out a few times, it loosened the plastic up enough to make it a lot easier. Paint work is excellent throughout, with clean paint lines, nice and sharp eye paint and no issues that immediately jumped out while handling the figure for the shoot.
Pennywise has a number of fantastic display options. The figure has a four fairly unique portraits. I really loved the frowning/angry portrait as well as the laughing portrait the most of the four. I do wish there was a standard grinning portrait included. There are standard hands includes, as well as a hand to grip the balloons, one for the noise maker, one pointing hand, and two creature claw hands. I was surprised at how easy it was to get Pennywise to hold all seven balloons at once. I figured that was going to be tricky, but the grip is closed just enough to hold each of the wires together tightly. There’s a hand that’s specifically made to hold the handle of the noise maker, but that one also worked will to hold a single balloon. Georgie’s boat is included, and unlike the 2017 Pennywise, this one is actually constructed of paper. The printing on it is a little faded looking, but it’s still great to have a paper boat at that size.
This has been an oft requested figure from NECA fans, and it’s great to finally have it in hand. Overall, it’s a really stellar figure with some great and varied display possibilities. Check out soem select photos below and the full gallery after that.
