The second assortment of Predator 1/18 Scale Figures will soon be released by Hiya Toys. The newest assortment includes three figures inspired by Predator 2. These include the Elder Predator, the Warrior Predator, and the Boar Predator. The figures are part of Hiya’s Exquisite Mini line, which features a high level of articulation and interchangeable parts. Overall
Each of the new Predator 2 figures comes packaged in a collector friendly window box. The packaging for each includes multiple photos of the included figure, as well as artwork from Predator 2. Each figure is packed in a plastic clamshell tray. There are multiple hands included for each figure, along with weapons, and figure stands. The stands can connect together using the “H” brackets included with each figure.
Like the first assortment, the sculpted details are handled very well. For the small size, the texture work on the masks, netting, and armor are all really impressive. The feet sculpts here are perhaps a bit too realistic. The slightly rounded bottoms of the feet made these a little harder to keep standing. When displaying for an extended time, I do recommend the stands. The paint work on these guys is also done very well. Paint lines are sharp, especially on areas like the netting. They did a great job using different types of paint for the different areas. While the skin is a smoother paint finish, the armor and masks have a metallic pant look, with a heavy wash over them for a nice “used” tech look to them. I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary, and the separation between painted areas seemed generally crisp and clean.
Each of the Predator figure features about 25 to 27 points of articulation, depending on the figure. There are ball jointed shoulders, a split torso that moves at the chest and the hips, bicep swivels, forearms swivels, double jointed knees, rotating and pivoting ankles and more. There’s a great range of motion to the articulation as well, with the ability to pull off just about any pose I wanted to do. Unlike wave 1, I had no quality control issues. All the joints, while strong, were completely free of any paint locking issues. None of the joints felt like they were going to break, and plastic quality seemed a little more sturdy compared to series 1. Softer plastic is used on the weapons and blades, but I understand the need for that at such a small size.
Hiya really impressed me with both series of Predator figures. While wave 1 was mostly good, Wave 2 is simply great for the scale. The Elder Predator is probably the most desirable of the trio, as he comes packed with the most accessories, but all three are nice solid releases.
