Hiya Toys has begun expanding their line of Aliens action figures beyond the Aliens: Colonial Marines video game. With their newest releases, they tackle two of the creatures from Alien: Covenant. The Covenant Xenomorph and the Neomorph are presented in 3.75″ scale. Each figure includes interchangeable parts and a figure stand. The figures are currently scheduled to ship out this quarter.

Overall
The figures are packaged in collector friendly window boxes. Design work on the packaging is very minimal throughout. The boxes are mostly matte black, with the Covenant logo and a piece of art on the front. The back has a couple of photos of the corresponding figure. Each sits in a plastic tray. The Covenant Xenomorph includes swap out hands, and a figure stand. The Neomorph includes swap out hands, an interchangeable head sculpt, a Facehugger, and a figure stand.
The new figures feature designs based on the most recent film in the Alien saga; Alien: Covenant. Hiya did a nice job of shrinking down these designs to work with the size class. Detail work on the bodies of both figures is pretty impressive. The Neomorph has a much smoother, skin like texture, with a subtle musculature throughout. The Xenomorph is far more busy in its design, The bone like structure of the limbs and chest look great. The head sculpts, though, could have used some more defined sculpt work, and appear a bit soft compared to the work on the bodies. The Xenomorph does feature an articulated jaw, and extendable inner jaw. Paint work is great though. The Neomorph, while mostly white, features subtle paint washes of of pinks and browns to add depth to the sculpture. The Xeno is mostly a reflective black paint, with some browns and tans used to add definition.
The figures each include swap out hands, and they were easy enough to change out. The wrist pegs are very small, so use a bit of extra care when removing the hands. The Neomorph has an alternate portrait, and was even easier to change. The included figure stands are the standard grate style flooring we’ve seen on just about every Aliens release from Hiya. The other notable accessory is the Facehugger included with the Neomorph. It’s designed in a way to be placed over the face of a 1/18 scale figure. The tail takes some messing with to get it to hold firm, but it does look great once you get it to look right.
The figures from Hiya Toys have been steadily improving with almost every release. It seems that with each new series, Hiya makes adjustments to correct lingering problems. With the Alien Covenant wave, that is very evident. I had a hair dryer ready to go to loosen up any paint locked or overly tight joints, but never had to use it. The plastic quality is clearly improved, and feels a bit more solid, without being fragile. They’re more in line with the recent Predator releases. The joints on the Neomorph are much more visible than previous Aliens releases, with larger pegs and holes. While that will break up the aesthetic a bit, joint stability has definitely been improved because of it. With the Xenomorph, the joint connection remain mostly small, but fairly strong. I was careful when moving each limb, and was happy to see that each joint performed as it should. Overall articulation is good for the size. Though the Neomorph sacrifices arm swivels, and his small feet make him very hard to stand.
If you’re looking for some smaller scale Aliens creatures, these are a decent pick up. I do like the larger Raven and Crusher Aliens more (personal preference). However, these two showcase solid sculpts, good articulation, and improved quality control. Check out some select photos below, and the full gallery after that.
