In November 2018, Spyro The Dragon, the iconic PlayStation game series, was re-released for modern consoles, fully upgraded and remastered. Much like the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy maintained the core ideas and mechanics of the original games. Just like they did with Crash Bandicoot, Spyro gets an brand new action figure from NECA. The figure measure about 8″ from head-to-tail, and has about 16 points of articulation. The figure has popped up in a few retail GameStop locations, but is officially scheduled to ship out to stores next week. Look for it to hit NECA’s eBay and amazon stores early next week, and most locations should have it by the first week of April.

Overall
The Spyro the Dragon figure comes in a basic plastic blister card packaging. The front of the packaging features a graphic insert, while the back showcases a single shot of Spyro, along with a figure summary. No additional accessories are included.
Right out of the package, the Spyro figure is basically ready for display. The sculpt work on the figure is excellent. The figure design takes its inspiration from the Spyro Reignited promotional materials, and is a great overall representation of the character. There are finely detailed scales, and smoother texture on the underbelly and horns. The figure is solid, with a really nice weight to it. Paint work is excellent throughout, with nice transitional colors in both the purple and yellow areas. The entire thing has an airbrushed look to it, which really highlights things like the scales. Paint lines in the eyes are clean and crisp, with not noticeable paint bleed.
Articulation is decent. The neck has a double ball joint at both the body and where it connects to the head. This offers some great range of motion, especially for flying poses. The wings are also handled really well, with hinged ball joints that callow for them to be placed in just about any position. The segmented tail also has a nice amount of movement available. The hip connectors work well, and are basically designed like most NECA shoulder joints. The lack of knee articulation is kind of missed here, which prevents more dynamic poses.The design of the back legs, I’m guessing, is what led to that begin excluded, as the knee area there is pretty thick, and would require a fairly big cut to separate the upper and lower legs out.I noticed after the first handful of shots, that the feet were placed on the wrong legs, and had to swap them around.
On the whole, this is a great representation of Spyro, which looks great paired with Crash Bandicoot. Check out some select photos below, and the full gallery after that.
