At the end of Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday, Jason Voorhees is finally defeated, and the heroes walk off into the sunset together. The undead killer from Camp Crystal Lake is finally sent to the deepest bowels of hell to rot for eternity. Jason’s broken mask, partially buried in the spot of his demise is all the remains. Suddenly, we see the clawed hand of Freddy Krueger shoot from the ground, grabbing the mask and pulling it into the underworld. That brief teaser gave a much needed jolt to the franchise, fueling speculation that a film pitting horrors most iconic modern titans against each other. It was no secret that various parties were interested in bringing Freddy and Jason together, but licensing issues and studio interference would derail each attempt before it was ever started. It would be a full decade after Jason Goes To Hell before the crossover film was released. The movie was directed by Ronnie Yu, known for directing the cult hit Bride of Chucky.
The Freddy Vs Jason plot centers on a powerless Freddy Krueger, stuck in Hell now that the residents of Springwood have forgotten about him. He devises a plan to bait Jason into killing Springwood teens, in the hopes that they will blame Freddy, and allow him to stalk their dreams once more. With Jason now on a killing spree in the real world, Freddy is denied the victims he needs in the dream world to re-emerge. The surviving teens discover the plan, and bring Freddy to the real world and pit the two against each other. They brutal fight comes to a near stalemate before Freddy is decapitated, with both he and Jason seemingly dead at the bottom of Crystal Lake. However, the next morning, Jason emerges victorious, or so he believes. As he walks towards the camera with Freddy’s severed head in hand, the disembodied Elm Street Slasher winks at the audience. While the film wasn’t particularly well received, it was a commercial success, and some fans have warmed up to it. Unfortunately, the movie actually marked the end for each of the long running series’. Reboots of both characters were launched in 2009 and 2010, but failed ultimately to spawn new franchises.
Over the years, there have been a few figures here and there for the film. As part of their ongoing line of Ultimate Friday The 13th Figure, NECA Toys has released an all new version of the FvJ Jason Voorhees. The figure begins shipping to retailers next week, and we have an advanced look at the new figure. Jason includes multiple interchangeable masks, machetes, a flame effect, and a teddy bear accessory. After the jump, you can check out a full photo shoot and review for the Freddy vs Jason – Ultimate Jason Voorhees Figure.

Overall
The FvJ Jason figure is packed in the standard flapped window box for NECA’s Ultimate releases. The front features one half of the iconic poster that showed Freddy and Jason facing off. The back of the box has a number of photo that give a nice look at the included parts and accessories. Jason includes a a standard mask, a scratched mask, a bloody mask, a machete, a bloody machete, a flame attachment, and a teddy bear.
This release marked the long awaited return of NECA’s Freddy vs Jason figures, which originally were released back in 2004. This all-new version of Jason features full articulation, and new accessories. The figure looks incredible in hand, and has some of the most detailed paint they’ve done for a Jason figure. The outfit in the film was quite unique when compared to Jason’s prior attire. The filmmakers used multiple heavy clothing layers to add bulk to the actor, as well as lifts in the soles of his shoes to add some extra height. You can actually see these individual layers on the figure. From the blue undershirt, to the tattered sweater, to the nearly destroyed jacket, there’s a lot going on in the upper body sculpt. Even the sculpt for the pants are great, as they actually appear to be a little oversized and baggy. While all of that sounds over the top, it came together rather well in the film, and translates nicely to the figure. Each of the masks looks pretty much spot on. The damaged and blood covered masks are likely going to be hard to decide between when displaying the figures. Paint work is up there with some of NECA’s best in the line. Jason was heavily dirt covered in the film, and that allowed for some thick paint application on the figure. There are multiple levels of paint details and washes to highlight the tattered clothing he’s wearing.
A few parts and accessories here are worth special mention, as they go beyond what we see in the film. Jason features an unmasked portrait, which (I believe) was only seen in behind the scenes images and other collectible releases. The look was meant to give off a Frankenstein’s Monster vibe, which is captured well here. However, it’s probably the least interesting unmasked design and I imagine most fans will keep the masks on. The other special item here is a small Teddy Bear accessory. This is also an item not featured in the film, but comes from a behind the scenes promotional image of Jason Voorhees actor Ken Kirzinger sitting on set, holding a teddy bear that was on the set.
The only things missing here are some Freddy themed accessories. A companion Freddy Krueger figure was in the works, which likely would have included some of the pieces, like a winking head sculpt. Sadly, due to a messy licensing situation with the Elm Street franchise (not to mention the licensing issues with Friday the 13th), all Freddy Krueger figures had to be put on hold. So it may be some time before they get a shot at completing that figure. Thankfully, there’s plenty of previously released Freddy figures that can stand in for now, plus you can pop off one of those head sculpts and Jason can hold it with no trouble.
Fans are going to absolutely want to pick this figure up. It’s a nice big figure, it has a stellar sculpt, some great paint application, and a nice assortment of accessories. You can grab it now from the NECA eBay Store, or the NECA Amazon Store. Look for the figure to hit store shelves by the end of the month. You can see some select photos below, and a full gallery after that.
