Today we have an advanced look at the upcoming Bruce Lee Select 7″ Scale Figure coming from Diamond Select Toys. The figure is a part of the growing assortment of Bruce Lee collectibles being released by DST. Other collectibles include statue, Minimates, a bust, and Vinimates. For their first action figure, DST chose his iconic yellow tracksuit from his film; Game of Death. While Bruce Lee sadly passed before he could finish the film, his yellow tracksuit has become one of the most recognizable looks for the legendary actor, with the other being his role in Enter The Dragon.

In this release, Diamond Select Toys includes two interchangeable heads, eight interchangeable hands, and three different nunchucks. The figure is scheduled to hit stores within the next month. It’s priced at about $30 (though some sites have it closer to $28). DST sent along an advanced sample of the figure for us to check out. The Bruce Lee figure comes packaged in the book style Select packaging DST has been using for some time. It’s nice for displaying in-packaging, but you do need to cut the plastic or rip it from the card back to remove the figure. The figure includes a standard portrait, a screaming portrait, four sets of interchangeable hands, a standard nunchaku, a spinning nunchaku, and an attacking nunchacku.

When I initially saw the figure on display at various cons, I was impressed with the level of detail DST was looking to go for. Bruce Lee has updated articulation compared to most Select figures, with a great range of motion. From the double jointed knees and elbows, the ball jointed hips, and the ankle rockers, the figure can pull off some great poses. In a lot of ways, it resembles a tall Marvel Legends figure when posing. The overall sculpt is nice looking, with a nice take on the iconic tracksuit, and nice sculpted features on the head sculpts. The hands also are surprisingly natural looking, which is something I don’t often think about, but was immediately noticeable here. The portraits are a bit hit and miss. They’re great overall head sculpts, with a lot of detail. The standard portrait has a pretty solid likeness to Bruce Lee, though the face looks a bit fuller. The screaming one feels a little more off tough.

Hands and portraits swap out with no trouble at all. The connections have a nice snap when attaching them as well. There was no need to heat up the ball joints or pegs to remove or attach, which is always welcome. Paint application is on par with what you would expect from a Select figure. Mostly clean and sharp, with a spot or two that bleed together, but nothing too glaring. There’s a bit of digital printing on the face, mainly for the skin itself, and is mixed with some hand painting for areas like the eyes and teeth.

The plastic used here is on the softer side, and definitely has a different in-hand feel compared to something like their Ghostbusters line. It seems to affect the gripping hands the most, as the grip is a bit loose for the nunchucks, and they don’t really sit properly. It didn’t affect the posing much, however. I was able to keep the figure standing while shooting, and the lighter weight makes balancing a lot easier.

While I do not have the S.H. Figuarts version on hand, I can say this is definitely a taller figure. Scale wise, it fits perfectly with any of the 7″ lines out there, or any of the taller 1/12 lines (like Storm). The articulation, nice sculpting and interchangeable parts are the big pluses here. At under $30, it’s a more affordable alternative to S.H. Figuarts release (not counting the knock offs). Check out soem select photos below, and the full gallery after that.
