Dark Souls – The Black Knight Statue by Gecco – Toyark Photo Shoot

In the Dark Souls video game, the Black Knights are unique enemies that do not respawn (except at the Kiln of the First Flame). Formerly Silver Knights serving Gwyn, Lord of Sunlight, the knights were charred black in battle near the Kiln of the First Flame. When Gwyn united the First Flame, the knights were burned to ashes, destined to roam the land as spirits.

The Black Knight joins the Dark Souls 1/6 Scale Statue line up from Gecco. The statue stands over 16″ tall. It features light up LED eyes and includes a themed base. Fans who pre-ordered the statue get bonus additional weapons. Those include the Greatsword, Greataxe and Halberd. The statue is priced at $469.99 and will be releasing soon. Overall
Like just about everything Gecco does, the Black Knight Statue turned out to be a fantastic collectible. The sculpt, which was supervised by Dark Souls developer FromSoftware, is just as good as I expected. The armor features excellent detailing, with differing textures based on the materials that are being represented. While large armor plating has a fine, brush metal feel to it, areas like the chain mail have a more pronounced texture that does a great job of evoking movable armor. The statue features a mix of ABS and PVC plastics, which are both fairly hard plastics that allow those finer sculpted details to come through. Some minor assembly is required, such as choosing the weapon to display the statue with. There are a few different hands included, each with a proper grip for certain weapons. Weapons separate at different spots, allowing for them to slide into the gripped hand without any trouble.

Highlighting the sculpt is another solid paint job by the artists at Gecco. While black is the main theme here, there’s quite a bit of brush work to add weathering to the armor and weapons. Subtle bits of gray, copper, and silver shine through the charred black, while additional pops of copper and silver paints add depth to the filigree on the armor, weapons and shield. Each of the weapons also has a bit of crimson red smeared on them, which evokes the look of aged, dry blood from those who crossed paths with the Knight.

An LED light up feature is included in the head sculpt. The head slides of f the shoulder to access the button and the battery compartment. Batteries are included, which is always nice to see. However, the light itself was fairly dull, and hard to make out. I’m not sure if the batteries had drained a bit, or if this particular bulb just wasn’t as bright.

Outside of the light, this is a great representation of the Black Knight from the game. The sculpt and paint work are as good as we expect from Gecco. The assortment of weapons adds some nice variety to your display, as you can switch out to the different pieces quite easily. Check out a selection of photos below, and the full gallery after that.
