In Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning, years after the attack, Tommy Jarvis is still haunted by his encounter with Jason Voorhees. Moving to a halfway house, hoping to regain some semblance of a life, Tommy is plagued by visions of Jason’s return. After one of his fellow patients kills another, others start to mysteriously turn up dead. It isn’t until the end of the film that you find out it is Roy Burns, a paramedic we meet earlier in the movie. His son Joey was the initial patient killed, and Roy impersonates Jason to take vengeance on those at the camp. The film is a major turning point in the franchise. With Jason officially dead at the end of Part 4, this film sought to pass along the Jason mantle to others. However, when Part 6 was ultimately made, Jason would make his return as an undead, and now unstoppable, killing machine. For a long time, this iterations has been one of the least loved by fans. However, over the last few years, the film has gained a noticeable following.
The “Roy Burns” Jason has been a figure often requested of NECA. They had promised, once the Ultimate line really got going, that they would like to touch on every iteration of Jason in the format. Licensing issues have sadly put a hold on those plans for now. Now fans can finally own the imposter Jason, as the figure is available in stores. We picked up the figure from sponsor Entertainment Earth. You can see my photos and review after the jump.

Friday The 13th Part V: A New Beginning – Ultimate “Roy Burns” Jason Voorhees by NECA Toys
Pros
- Excellent sculpt work
- Great articulation
- Nice assortment of weapons
- Strong paint work
Cons
- Left hand can be a bit tricky to swap out
Overall
Roy Burns is packed in a collector friendly flapped window box. The front features one of the posters from the film. On the back, they showcase just a few of the items the figure includes. The figure and accessories sit on a plastic try, with a mix of tape and twist ties holding everything in. The figure includes a removable hockey mask, a swap out left hand, a machete, a cleaver, a rail spike, a pole, a knife, gardening sheers, a road flare, and a leather strap with branch.
This figure has turned out to be one of NECA’s best Ultimate Jason releases yet. Using a few parts from the Halloween 2018 Michael Myers, the figure sports the best range of motion of any of the Jason figures released (in my opinion). The double jointed elbows go a long way to making posing with the weapons more dynamic. The rest of the articulation is on par with what you would expect on a NECA release. Joints were great, with no loose or locking issues at all. Paint works is spot on, with some really nicely applied paint work on the face. Lines are crisp and clean, with no offset eyes, or misaligned colors. The heavy wash on the clothing keeps the figure looking appropriately dirty, with some nice splashes of red on the cuts in the clothing.
The sculpt may share some bits with the Michael Myers, but a lot of those have been retooled to stay accurate to the film, such as the pockets and jacket buttons. The new head sculpt is stellar, with a great life-like look to the Roy Burns face. It pulls off the look of someone wearing a bald cap quite well. The mask sits on the head sculpt perfectly, and looks to be fairly accurate to the film. The only real issue I rant into was when I was swapping out the left hands. The connector is small, and it takes a good bit of force to pop the hands back on. Heating it up should help.
What would a Jason be without an arsenal of weapons? This figure comes jam packed with goodies to use in your display. Pretty much every weapon you see in the film is here. The weapons are constructed out of a fairly solid plastic (save for the leather strap). this keeps the blades nice and straight, and giving them a more realistic metallic look. Special mention should be made of the gardening sheers, which can open and close. The leather strap and stick are also a nice touch, and you just need a proper screaming victim and a tree to complete that kill.
While Part V remains one of my least favorite entries in the franchise, this figure is going to be a fan favorite. The great sculpt and paint work are complimented by a fantastic assortment of accessories. Check out a selection of images below. After that, you can find all of the images.
