TMNT II: Secret of The Ooze – Super Shredder 7-Inch Scale Figure – Toyark Photo Shoot

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze the Turtles must face off against a returning Shredder, and his two new mutants; Tokka and Rahzar. As the rivals battle for the last remaining canister of ooze, shredder is exposed creating a genetic nightmare known as the Super Shredder. He only appears briefly at the end of the film, killing himself by collapsing a dock in the hopes of finally ridding the world of the Turtles. While his appearance was brief, the over-the-top design and massive size of Super Shredder left a lasting impression with fans. Portrayed by legendary wrestler Kevin Nash, the Super Shredder featured shoulder pads, shin guards, and wrist guards with an insane amount of blades, as well as a costume that seems to have mutated alongside him.

Last month, NECA held a limited pre-order window for Super Shredder. I was able to pick one up, and today I have an in-hand gallery and review of the new figure. Overall
The Super Shredder figure is packed in a large flapped window box. The front flap features the classic poster for Secret of the Ooze. The back showcases the figure and accessories in a nice design paying homage to his scene from the film. Super Shredder includes a fabric cape, seven interchangeable hands, a bishamon yari, and a TGRI ooze canister. The figure and accessories sit in a plastic tray, perfect for storing accessories you aren’t using.

In-hand, I was surprised at just how large the Super Shredder figure is. Even with the large box, I was still impressed with the overall stature of the figure. From the top blade of his helmet to his feet, Super Shredder is 9.5″ tall, absolutely towering over the other figures in the line. The larger size definitely allows for details to shine here. Like his movie counterpart, the Super Shredder figure is ridiculously muscular. The armor design, with double the amount of blades throughout, is both ridiculous and impressive looking at once. The helmet has added ridges on the blades, and a face shield right out of a Mad Max film. NECA even captured the deranged wide-eyed look behind the mask. There are a lot of intricate details to appreciate, with great scarring on the face and hands, fine texture work on the costume, and sharp looking edges to the blades. Thankfully, NECA went with a softer material for the blades, which eliminates breakage issues when posing or swapping out parts. The assorted hands swap out easily. I really liked the variety here. You get closed fists, open palms, grip hands for the staff, and an extra grip hand for the ooze canister. I was happy to see NECA go with the TGRI logo, as opposed to the TCRI that they used for the first films canisters.

There are about 30 points of articulation here. Those include double jointed knees and elbows, a ball jointed chest, and more. Range of motion is excellent. The massive shoulder pads do prevent the shoulders from rotating all the way, but that’s just the nature of the film design. The only downside to the articulation is the sculpt of the knees. They look fine when completely straight, but when bent, they can look kind of ugly. I didn’t run into any loose or locked joints, and never needed to bust out the hairdryer. Paint work is really strong here. The metallic armor pieces are painted with a nice reflective brush metal look. The muscles on the costume have hard edge highlights and shadows painted on which mimics the paint work in the film. In addition there are numerous paint washes adding depth to the sculpt. Areas like the eyes have clear crisp edges.

I am really happy with how the Super Shredder turned out. It’s a massive, imposing addition to the TMNT movie line up, that looks fantastic. Great sculpting and paint work, combined with strong articulation have made for a really fun figure to pose and display. Below, you can see a selection of photos, with the full gallery after that.
