Last year, the horror streaming service Shudder resurrected Creepshow as an anthology TV series. The first season of the series consisted of six episodes, with each episode containing two short stories. Shudder brought in legendary special effects artist Greg Nicotero to design shows mascot, The Creep. Fans will know Nicotero from his work on The Walking Dead, Army of Darkness, Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, From Dusk Til Dawn, Phantasm II, and many, many more. The Creep is the undead host of the show, silently introducing each segment and episode. The Creep is completely animatronic. Earlier this year, Nicotero previewed an updated look for The Creep for Season 2 of Creepshow.

NECA Toys is releasing an all-new 7″ scale figure based on The Creep from Season 1 of the Creepshow TV Series. The figure includes a fabric cloak, an interchangeable hand, a lantern, a comic book, and a skull. The figure shipped out to retailers and should hit shelves very soon. The Creep is packed in a collector friendly window box, similar to many of their modern retro clothed figures. The packaging design is inspired by comics and animated interludes that appear in the TV series. The figure and accessories sit on a plastic tray, and can easily be put back after opening for storage. There a swap out hand to hold the included lantern, a skull, and a comic book included.

I was really pleased to see NECA take on the new Creep design. I liked what Nicotero did with the character, but think it looks even better at the smaller scale. It’s a fun creepy looking undead character. The figure features a fully sculpted and articulated “zombie” body with a fabric cloak. The portrait features some synthetic hair that looks to be glued in. As you can see from the pics, the cloak can be removed, which is going to be great for customizers looking to create their own 7″ scale zombies. The sculpt work is stellar, with a ton of small, intricate rotted details throughout the figure. Articulation is solid as well. There’s double jointed elbows, rocker ankles, and a ball jointed torso. The knees are single jointed, but that doesn’t affect the figure one way or another. The joints themselves are fine.v No paint locking, and none of the joints were loose. Paint work is top notch on The Creep. It’s full of different shades of browns, with a thin clear coat over top that adds the creepy shine the skin has. Areas like the eyes and teeth have sharp clean lines with no noticeable paint bleed.

When I originally saw the prototype for the figure, I was a bit worried about the cloak. In NECA’s photos, the cloak looked like a thicker burlap material. It looked like it would work more for their 8″ scale figures, as opposed to their 7″ line. However, now that I have the figure in hand, I was surprised at how thin the final material was. It still retains that burlap look, but it drapes much better on the figures frame. The hood is wired around the opening, and from front to back on the top of the hood. I was able to easily bend those to get it to lay how I wanted. The included accessories are all welcome. The grip hand hold the lantern with no trouble, and the open palm hands can hold the skull or the comic. The lantern does not light up, for those wondering. The comic accessory was pretty impressive, as it’s fully printed inside and out, with one of the stories from the show on the interior.

The Creep makes a really solid addition to the 7″ scale horror line up. It’s a great looking overall figure, with some good accessories, solid articulation, and impressive paint work. Check out a section of images below, and the full gallery after that.
