Guillermo del Toro Signature Collection Pan’s Labyrinth – The Old Faun 7-Inch Scale Figure by NECA – Toyark Advanced Photo Shoot

NECA Toys is re-releasing their Faun figure, with a few updates. The Guillermo del Toro Signature Collection Pan’s Labyrinth – The Old Faun 7″ Scale Figure features a new head sculpt, and an updated paint scheme. In the movie, a mythical figure known as Pan, tests a young girl named Ofelia. She is looking to escape from the difficult life she is forced to live. As the movie progresses, Ofelia is never truly sure if she can trust the Faun, and ultimately disobeys his commands. The Faun is played by Doug Jones, who also portrays the Pale Man in the film.

The upcoming Old Faun Figure begins shipping out to retailers at the end of this month. It should be on shelves by early December. It’s part of the Guillermo del Toro Signature Collection. We’ve looked at previous releases from the line, including: The Faun, The Amphibian Man, The Pale Man, and the Guillermo del Toro 8″ Figure. Overall
The figure features all new packaging art featuring the Faun. It’s a mostly black packaging, with photos of the figure on the back. The Old Faun includes a bone flute, a satchel, and a container. The initial Faun release included a dagger, but that is absent here.

For the most part, the Old Faun is the same excellent figure that was released last year. The body sculpt didn’t feature any updates that I could see. The overall sculpt is highly detailed, with great tree bark style legs, and intricate detail work throughout. The Old Faun has numerous patterns carved into its skin, and those are replicated nicely here. Articulation is still pretty solid, and the joints move smoothly, and hold their poses with no trouble. Nothing was paint locked, and none of the joints felt brittle here.

The new head sculpt is pretty nice. It has a noticeably different expression, slightly re-positioned ears, and a damaged horn on the left hand side. The biggest change here is the completely different paint deco. While the original release featured more earth tones, such as browns and tans, the new one has a much more green look to it. The eyes are also now a stark white, compared to the more traditional look in the first release. The colors seem to pay homage to the sharp green lighting that was present whenever the Faun appeared on screen. The paint is applied well, with nice transitions between the earthly elements and more natural skin of the character. The figure has numerous paint washes that add depth to the intricate sculpt as well.

For fans who missed out on the original release, it’s easy to recommend The Old Faun. It’s an outstanding overall figure. If you already own the original release, then it will depend on how well you like the variations here. After having them in hand, I like the new head sculpt a bit more (the broken horn is a nice touch), but definitely like the colors of the first release as opposed to this one.
