John Carpenter's The Thing - Ultimate MacReady Announced by NECA Toys - The Toyark

After numerous companies have tried, and run into licensing issues over the last few years, a new figure from John Carpenter’s The Thing is coming! NECA Toys has announced a R.J. MacReady Ultimate 7″ Scale Figure! The figure includes three interchangeable head sculpts, a hat, goggles, a bottle of whisky, a glass, a lantern, a shotgun, and more. As you may remember, we posted an article back in 2019 about how we needed The Thing figures as part of our Figures Wanted series.

In the film, R.J. MacReady (played perfectly by Kurt Russell) is a helicopter pilot for Outpost 31, an American research station in Antarctica. When their camp is seemingly attacked by a Norwegian pilot chasing a dog, Mac heads up to the Norwegian Research station with Doctor Copper to find out what is going on. Once there, the pair find a burned and twisted body that they bring back to Outpost 31. Little did they know, this twisted being and the dog they took in, are both shape shifting creatures that can imitate any life form perfectly. Now the research team must determine who is human, and who is The Thing before they are all wiped out, and the creature moves to civilization.
