Released in 1954, the Creature From The Black Lagoon is one of the most iconic monsters in history. The film follows a group of scientists in the amazon jungle who come upon the ancient creature. Their attempt to capture the creature prove disastrous, and leads to a number of deaths and injuries. The film spawned two sequels, Revenge of the Creature (1955), and The Creature Walks Among Us (1956).

Overall
The Creature from the Black Lagoon comes packed in a nice compact window box. The packaging is collector friendly, allowing you to easily put the figure and accessories back on the plastic tray for display or storage. The figure includes two portraits, a swap out hand, a fabric net, a harpoon gun, and a fossilized creature hand.

For me, this is the first Universal Monster figure by Jada Toys that I have handled. They have multiple other figures available, and reviews that I have read have been pretty favorable for those. After posing this figure, and taking the photos, I can see why. This is a nice 6″ scale figure, with a strong sculpt, nice paint work, and a good amount of articulation. The figure stands a little over 6″ tall, and looks to scale well with Marvel Legends, but is definitely too small to work with the NECA Universal Monsters line (and in turn the DST Universal Monsters line). The sculpt itself has a lot of intricate detail work, with the sculpted scales giving the Creature a nice texture.

There’s about 25 points of articulation, including double jointed knees and elbows, thigh and bicep swivels, and multiple ball jointed sections on the torso. Range of motion is excellent, as there’s nothing on the sculpt that would hinder posing. The joints had no issues, and held their positions well. None of them were locked or felt overly loose. Paint work here is done well. The bright green translucent plastic is where the main glow will come from, and the effect looks great in-hand. Even with just a few minutes of light exposure, the Creature really lit up when I switched off my lights. Adding to this, the layered paint really transforms the look of the figure once you turn the lights off. The paint lines around the eyes, nails, and mouth are crisp and clean, while the rest of the body has an airbrushed look to it.

A nice mix of accessories are included. The extra portrait and hand are especially welcome. The harpoon gun can be held by the Creature if you desire, but it may work best with a human figure. The net looks good, but I don’t see myself displaying that. Keep in mine, the heads are on a barbell ball joint, and the fit on the head sculpts is fairly tight. I did resort to using a hairdryer to loosen those up when switching out.

I thin fans collecting this line will be pretty pleased with the overall figure. It’s an iconic design, and was handled nicely by Jada Toys. Check out a selection of images below, and then the full gallery after that.
