Universal Monsters Frankenstein Accessory Pack by NECA – Toyark Photo Shoot

The excellent line of NECA’s Universal Monsters has been expanding rapidly. They have put out an assortment of Ultimate 7″ Scale Figures in both full color, and monochrome paint decos to pay homage to the iconic characters. They’ve also paid homage to classic toys, like their Remco style glow-in-the-dark releases. To go with the figures, NECA is putting out accessory packs, which give even more display options to each figure. The Mummy accessory pack is in stores now, with the Frankenstein and Dracula sets to follow afterwards. Today, we are pleased to present an advanced in-hand look at the upcoming Frankenstein Accessory Set.

The set features new accessories for the Frankenstein’s Monster Ultimate 7″ Scale Figure (Color Version). Included is the operating table, a sheet, a torch, a diorama backdrop, and a new bandaged head sculpt for the figure. The set is priced at about $40. It’s scheduled to ship out this month. Universal Monsters Frankenstein’s Monster 7″ Scale Accessory Pack by NECA

Pros

• Makes for a great display
• Table is highly detailed
• Adding the table restraints is a nice tough
• New head sculpt makes a great addition

Overall
The windowless packaging features a great illustration on the cover. Inside, you will find all of the pieces to assemble the table, a fabric cloth, a vinyl cloth to hang on the table, the new head sculpt, and the lit torch. The pieces are spread out over two plastic trays. there are about 22 pieces overall to assemble the table. Instructions are included for assembly. Also included is a 3-panel cardboard backdrop of Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory.

The table assembly can be a bit rough. Individually, the parts can feel pretty fragile. The connection points are extremely tight, so it will take some force to get those into place. I tried to heat up the pieces, but that didn’t really work for the type of plastic used here. Use care, take your time, and it should go together just fine. Though, once assembled, I wouldn’t recommend trying to take it back apart. After getting it put together, I was happy with the overall look of the table. I appreciated the addition of the restraints, which are inserted into slits in the table, and fit perfectly over the Frankenstein’s Monster figure. For the Frankenstein’s Monster figure itself, a new bandaged wrapped head is included. The head sculpt swapped out with no trouble, and didn’t require any heating. It looks great on the figure, especially when you have it laying down. An additional piece of the lab scene is a cloth sheet included. The sheet is a silky texture, and is quite long. I don’t think it was a needed addition to the set, but it does work with the table display. To complete the scene, a cardboard backdrop is included. The backdrop depicts Dr. Frankenstein’s lab. It’s a 3-panel piece, where the sides fold in. The cardboard is nice and thick, and there was no warping. The printed background has a nice matte finish to it. The final addition is the lit torch. It’s an ok accessory. It looks good, but feels out of place with everything else in the set being directly tied with the laboratory display. Find the right figure to work as an angry villager, and the torch is perfect.

I really like seeing add-on sets like this, especially when they give you perfect pieces to complete a display. The sets and props of the Universal Monsters films are sometimes as important as the characters themselves. So being able to put Frankenstein’s Monster in a small diorama display, without having to source 3rd party pieces or backdrops, is great. Once assembled, the table is sturdy, and pairs perfectly with Frankenstein. For this set, I do wish the torch and sheet were swapped out for something else. Perhaps a smaller table with some test tubes that add to the scene. But, as-is, it’s absolutely a worthwhile addition to the horror line up.
