Another catch up gallery today with a look at two recent Meisho Movie Realization figures from Bandai Tamashii Nations. These are the Samurai inspired Star Wars figures which re-imagine core Star Wars characters as feudal Japan era warriors. I have been collecting the line since the start, and needed to catch up with the recent drops. Bandai Tamashii Nations sent through Boba as a promotional copy to review (thanks to them for sending it thru!), so I went and grabbed Mando and Grogu to dig in.
First up is Daimyo Boba Fett which re-does the first figure in the line in his new Book of Boba Fett style armor. While there are similarities with the first one, it is an all new piece. He comes packed with his Tusken Gaffi Stick, a chain weapon for the arm, blaster, pistol, katana and multiple hands. Paint is sharp, matching the darker Boba tones from the new show.
Then we have Ronin Mandalorian and Grogu in his Beskar gear. The first Mandalorian figure was pre-Beskar and was a Premium Bandai exclusive (see our gallery here). This time around he’s upgraded with silver paint Beskar gear, rifle, jetpack, pistol, katana, and then Grogu with his pram and a pushcart for said pram. This is an especially awesome throwback to the Japanese stories and TV show Lone Wolf and Cub, which followed a samurai and child who he pushed around in a very similar cart. That also inspired the Mandalorian series, so full circle.
Both of these continue the excellence of the line, in both construction and design. It’s hard to get fresh things on properties that have been around 40+ years, but this little alt-verse does it well. I also enjoy the fact that there aren’t 8 figures coming out every month. We get 1-4 a year max, so when they do show up they are special events. Even though I haven’t shot every single one individually for the site, this is another line I have front to back, and enjoy them whenever they show up. You can check galleries for what we have done here. I really think the Mandalorian gear works well with this style, and now that The Mandalorian has introduced us to about 9,000 new Mando themed armors, I hope the Bandai folks focus on that. Moff Gideon in his power up suit, Dark Troopers, Bo-Katan, Beaskar Stormtroopers, Paz Vizsla, The Armorer – all of these would work great here.
Bottom line, these are both great figures worthy of a pick up, so if you are new to the line or want to add to ranks, these will work for your shelves. Read on to check out our pics!
