Pre-orders will go live today for the new R.J. MacReady 1/6 Scale Figure from Mondo. The figure is based on Kurt Russell’s role as the helicopter pilot in John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982). In the movie, U.S. Outpost 31 in Antarctica is attacked by a shape-shifting alien. The creature can mimic any life form after brutally killing them, and violently changing its shape.
Starting at Noon CST (1:00 PM EST), you will be able to pre-order the R.J. MacReady 1/6 Scale Figure. The figure will be available as a both a Regular Edition, and a timed Exclusive Edition. The Regular Edition includes two swap out portraits, multiple interchangeable hands, a flamethrower, a shotgun, a pistol, and a display stand. The Timed Exclusive Edition adds the Norris Spider Head thing, and the mid-transformation Dog Thing as exclusive accessories.
The figure will be priced at $265. It will be available from MondoShop.com. The figure is expected to ship out in July 2024. Check out additional info and the new photos below.

Halloween is without a doubt our favorite day of the year, and we’ve been saving one of our biggest releases to mark the occasion …
So tomorrow, we’re dropping our long-awaited MacReady 1/6 scale figure, inspired by 1982’s THE THING from Universal Pictures, complete with cloth and faux leather fabric elements plus a slew of swappable hands, heads and weapons. He’ll be available as both a Regular Edition and a deluxe Timed Edition, which also includes the exclusive dog and spider-head creatures.
This figure feels like it’s been to Antarctica and back, and we appreciate your patience and excitement while we got everything perfect. It took quite a crew to realize Joe Allard’s design, including incredibly detailed sculpts by Pichet Pitsuwan and Matt Black, spot-on paints by Viola Wittrocka, Hector Arce and Ed Bradley, and cut and sew wizardry from Tim Hanson. And of course we needed Raúl Barrero’s photography skills to bring U.S. Outpost #31 to life. (The only problem now is that we still don’t know which one of them is THE THING!)
