Quantum Mechanics (QmX) has been pumping out high end items for Sci-Fi properties for a while now – most notably replica ships via their Cinema Arts line. Their Q-Figs are smaller & lighter in tone artistic takes on popular properties. Now are also getting into the 1/6th game with Master Series. Master Series was shown off at Toy Fair 2016 to include Star Trek, with the Original Series Spock and Kirk getting some 1/6th love (and they look great). QmX however already has a 1/6th scale figure on the market – the Firefly Malcolm Reynolds 1/6th scale figure. It’s a top to bottom faithful representation of one of Firefly‘s most popular characters. To clarify up front, I am not a big 1/6th scale collector. I dug Firefly and Serenity when they were out but haven’t revisited in a while. For the most part, Firefly licensed figures have been few and far between, and not great, until now. The Master Series figure nails all the key points for Malcolm – revolver, trench coat, suspenders. Color and tone is there for them all. The head sculpts, of which there are 2, give you a standard version you’d expect – a little less fine and detailed but good for a figure. The second one is the one that pops in my opinion, really capturing Nathan Fillion’s face. The detailing in skin tone and hair is great. Materials are solid throughout, but the coat pops in particular either being or mimicking suede leather superbly. Detailing on the weapons and accessories bring them to life as well, they aren’t just molded plastic. Bottom line, if you are a Firefly fan, this is probably the first solid figure you have a chance to buy and it’s totally worth it. Check it out for yourself below!
