Thundercats Classic debuted at SDCC 2015 and fans rejoiced! Finally an updated line of Thundercats figures to go with all our other modern reinterpretations. They would be handled by the Four Horsemen of Masters of the Universe Classics fame along with MattyCollector.
Half a year later, and something looked off as only 4 figures would be coming out in year one and it would start later than expected. Ok, not great, but things happen. A couple months later – we are surprised with a kick off to the line a bit early at SDCC 2016 – The Thunderkittens will drop as a 2 pack. Awesome! And then it didn’t show up for the show. Sonofa! Then right after that during SDCC 2016 – we find out MattyCollector is shutting down and the line will be cancelled after the first round of figures come out. WTF. I get it, business is business, but that’s two false starts in 5 years for a collector’s level Thundercats line, and that’s makes me sad. I am happy to grab these figures as is, but hopefully The Four Horsemen, Super 7, and Warner Brothers can figure it all out and continue the line like they are with MOTUC.
Until then, let’s take a look at the first Thundercats Classic figures to drop – Wily Kit and Wily Kat in their SDCC exclusive packaging. We have over 110 images of them in action after the break!

Great kick off to the line here! The figures are youthful without being toddler like. The sculpt, paint deco, and articulation are all excellent. The execution of the paint in certain places is a bit sloppy tho, noticeably the faces. Each come with additional hands, folded up whips for the belt, extended whips for action. Wilykat also has a smoke bomb molded into an additional hand. On top of all that, they also come with their hoverboards, excellently done. A single peg allows for posing, while the clear stand fits perfectly into a slot on the bottom allowing for dynamic board poses. Really livens up the shelf when both the board and figures are hitting those angles you couldn’t get otherwise. I would be super hyped, but as we talked above – the drama with the line and it’s currently cancelled status kinda takes the oomph out of it right now. I’ll be holding firm, eagerly anticipating the sub figures later in the year, and hoping for the best.
