NECA has provided us with an early sample of their upcoming Evil Dead 2 – Ash Williams Ultimate 7″ Scale Figure. This figure is based on their original Deadite Ash and Farewell To Arms Ash figures, which were released in 2012 as part of Evil Dead Series 1. The figure an updated lower body, bringing it to 25 points of articulation. Ash is packed in a flapped window box and includes a number of film related accessories. These include two interchangeable Ash head sculpts (bloody and Deadite), interchangeable right forearms, interchangeable standard and possessed hands, a severed possessed hand, a severed Deadite Linda head, a Necronomicon, tape recorder, a shotgun and an axe.

Overall
The Ultimate Evil Dead 2 Ash comes packaged in a flapped window box. The box features an updated version of the original skull poster. The figure and accessories sit on a plastic tray, allowing for easy repacking. The figure is held in with a single twist tie. As with all Ultimate figures, a diorama backdrop is included. For Ash, it’s an interior shot of the cabin.
NECA took their original “Deadite” Ash and “Farewell To Arms” Ash figures, and combined them into this release. But this isn’t a simple repack. They updated the lower body to feature full leg articulation and packed the box full of accessories. The interchangeable parts offer some great display options. The swappable heads both look fantastic, with the four year old sculpts holding up incredibly well. The paint on both head sculpts is very strong and clean, with no errors or misplaced paint masks. Paint useage on the entire figure is handled incredibly well. There are numerous blood splatters and dirt washes to bring out the sculpted details,gfiving Ash a very cinematic look. The swappable right arms allow for numerous posing and display possibilities. The main arm allows you to swap out the standard hand with a possessed Deadite hand or you can use the arm with a severed and wrapped stump.
Ash includes an assortment of other accessories. these include the severed possessed hand, a severed Deadite Linda head, a Necronomicon, tape recorder, a shotgun and an axe. Ash can hold the shotgun and axe without any trouble. They both use the sturdier solid plastic, and aren’t made of soft materials, so no bending here. The Necronomicon features some excellent detail work for such a small accessory. Linda’s head sculpt looks like a tiny film prop. NECA treated like a standard head sculpt, and the paint work is really solid here as well, with soft transitions on the skin, and washes in the hair and mouth. With this figure being based mainly on the Farewell to Arms Ash, it does not include a chainsaw (which some fans have mentioned and have issues with). A chainsaw accessory would be included with an Ultimate “Hero” Ash (likely updating the figure from Evil Dead Series 2) if and when they decide to do it. For the gallery, I used the chainsaw from NECA’s Ultimate Leatherface which, while not screen accurate, worked well here as a stand in.
This is a fantastic release from NECA. The figure looks great in hand and includes some excellent accessories. If you missed out on the older series, or are looking to update your Evil Dead display, then this figure is well worth it.
