Our newest Extreme Sets gallery delves into the sci-fi realm. Today we’re looking at their Sector 09 Pop-Up diorama display set. This set is part of their Multiverse Collection Wave 1. The set includes six 12″ tall by 20″ wide panels and four pop-up cubes. As with the previous sets, you can piece these panels together as you see fit. Connecting all six together yields you a backdrop that is 126″ wide! The Sector 09 set is designed to mainly work with 6″ and 7″ scale action figures, such as items from Marvel Legends, S.H. Figuarts, MAFEX, Marvel Select and NECA. The specific designs of the Sector 09 set work especially well with sci-fi figure lines.
I took this set for a spin, using some of my favorite NECA Aliens and Terminator figures to show how you can display these. There are over 35 photos. Read on to see the gallery and some thoughts on the set.

Overall
I’ve always enjoyed using dioramas and backdrop pieces in my photo shoots. After years of photographing on static white, gray and then black backgrounds, you start to look for ways to add depth and dimension to your photos. Keeping things fun is my main goal when photographing a figure, statue or collectible. Normally I’d use print outs, smaller cardboard dios or cobbled together displays using artificial plants and DST dio pieces. With the Extreme Sets, I always saw some huge potential in what they were doing. By larger panels that can bend when attached, all while looking fairly natural made these really tempting.
With the Sector 09 set, I saw some great possibilities for use in NECA photo shoots, especially as it related to Aliens. The panel art on these gave off a visual very similar to the movies space crafts and even the LV-426 colony interiors. The art is extremely clean, detailed and colorful where needed. Also, the art on the panels offered some nice variety, from a cargo bay door, a window into space and static walls and panels. Connecting the pieces is easy enough. Just bend the right edge of the panel along the guided edge and inset one of the other panels into the slot. You can now bend it in both directions at the connection point. The cubes simply pop up and fold the edges in. The cubes, though, do bow along some of the surfaces. It’s not troublesome, but can be noticeable.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well these panels worked. the semi-matte finish prevents lights from heavily reflecting, and the thick cardboard keeps the panels very flat and sturdy. I was so impressed with what I had seen, that I wound up buying one of the Alley Pop-Up sets for myself. If you’re looking for a no-fuss shelf display or something to use in your own photo shoots, then I think you’ll be fairly satisfied with these.
