We’re back with our final photo shoot for the Predator Series 17 assortment from NECA. We’ve previously taken a look at the video game inspired Serpent Hunter Predator as well as the AvP movie Youngblood Predator. In this photo shoot, we take a look at another Alien vs Predator themed figure in the Elder Predator. The most unique figure in the assortment, the elder Predator includes a cloth cape, removable blades, a spear and a removable mask. Toyark sponsor Entertainment Earth sent along the figure. NECA Predator Series 17 – Alien vs Predator – Elder Predator

The Elder Predator comes packaged in an Alien vs Predator themed cardback that fits in with the previously released AvP figures. The back includes the new bio for Elder, which reveals him to be an Ancient Predator, as well as a photo check list for Predator Series 17. The figure sits in a plastic tray and uses a single twist tie. The figure comes with a spear, removable gauntlet blades, a removable mask and a bladed spear.
Out of the three figures, the Elder Predator seemed to be the most anticipated from fans. With a cape and fully armored body, the Elder Predator comes off as one of the most menacing looking figures in the Predator line. The figure features an excellent overall sculpt, with the same strong pieces that were used in previous AvP figures from NECA. The armored pieces are heavily textured for a rough metallic look, while the skin is more finely textured with netting sculpted over it. NECA did take a few liberties with the movie head sculpt design. Gone are the quills on the side of his head, cheeks and on his chin, replaced with a more traditional looking Yautja head sculpt. This is likely due to the head size of a 7″ figure being too small to get them to work well and still allow for a removable mask. The paint work here is handled similarly to the previous AvP figures. Strong paint washes bring out the details of the armor, with a a gloss added to some of the skin areas. The netting is fully painted. The addition of a cape works great here. It’s more than a simple draped piece of cloth, with some areas sewn together to give it am ore regal look, with natural looking folds throughout..
Using the AvP body style, the figure has plenty of articulation. It’s easy to achieve plenty of dynamic poses. The upper body is quite heavy, with the full armor and the cape attached to it. The joints on the torso, shoulders and arms are all nice and tight. the lower body didn’t seem to fair as well in that regard. The hips on this figure were fairly loose, and the overall feel of the legs wasn’t quite s solid as the upper body, causing it to tip over a fair bit while I was handing the figure.
If you can avoid a figure with the looser hips, then fans should be quite pleased with the Elder Predator. The figure has a unique and imposing look to him and lots of articulation. He looks great with the other Predators or battling some Xenomorphs. Check out a few photos below and the full gallery after that.
