In 2012, fans of the Alien series were introduced to Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s long awaited return to the mythology he helped create. Originally conceived as a more direct prequel to Alien, the film script underwent rewrites to distance itself from the origin of the Xenomorph we all know and fear. Prometheus combined gorgeous visuals, a stellar performance by Michael Fassbender as the android David, and deep questions on the origin of life, and the consequences of trying to answer those questions. The film was immediately polarizing to fans of the Alien franchise. Some loved the set up, visuals and new additions to the lore, while others were turned off by odd character decisions, the lack of answers to the numerous questions and the absence of the actual Xenomorph species. The movie ultimately under performed at the North American box office (but did considerably better overseas).
Action figures created by NECA Toys never seemed to strike a chord with fans, as the line ultimately ended with only a handful of molds produced, and major characters being cancelled. Over time, a few of these figures have become highly sought after, including the Deacon (the creature seen at the end of the film). Fast forward to December 2016, and fans began getting a taste for the (now released) Alien: Covenant, a film which promised to bring Prometheus and Alien together. NECA saw this as a prime opportunity to get fans the figures they wanted, and release the final three figures that were underway when the Prometheus line was a cancelled. Dubbed The Lost Wave, this three-figure assortment brings fans the highly requested Dr. Elizabeth Shaw, the infected version of Sean Fifield and the daughter of Peter Weyland, Meredith Vickers.

NECA’s Prometheus: The Last Wave 7″ Scale Figure Assortment

Overall
With the Lost Wave assortment, we see a return to the original Prometheus packaging. They come in blister cards with artwork and designed inspired by visuals from Prometheus. The back of the packaging features bios for the specific characters. A Prometheus check list is also included on the back. Dr. Shaw includes a helmet, a camera, an axe and a sever portrait of David. Vickers includes a helmet, a camera and a flamethrower. Fifield includes a shattered helmet, a camera and a flashlight.
The figures features some great sculpting throughout. The suits, accessories and portraits are all handled well. Vickers seems a bit off though, as her eyes seem to be bulging or overly wide-eyed looking. It still has a decent likeness to Charlize Theron, but it’s probably the weakest of the three. Her Flamethrower snapped at a very thing part of the handle. I recommend heating up her hand before placing the gun in it. Dr. Shaw, the figure I was most looking forward to, does not disappoint. Her likeness is done well, and she includes some great accessories, the best of which is the severed head of the android David (which even has an articulated neck). Both Shaw and Vickers look to share the main body sculpt. the suits look great, with a shiny metallic paint to them, and sharply printed decals. Articulation is about average for a NECA figure, with good range of motion in the joints. Fifield turned out to be an absolute stunner in hand. The head sculpt looks outstanding, with some great texturing and detailing in his mutating skin. Paint work in Fifield is great as well, with numerous layers of paint washes to give the suit and head sculpt a very dirt covered look. The detailing in the suit still shows through all those layers of dirt. Fifield also has very articulated hips compared to most NECA releases, though it sacrifices the bicep and/or elbow swivel seen in most of their releases.
Fans of NECA’s Aliens line as well as Prometheus were delighted when the release of the Lost Wave was announced. After running them through the photo shoot, I think those fans are going to be quite pleased. I have a feeling Shaw and Fifield will become pretty big fan favorites as more people pick them up. The figures begin shipping to retailers next Friday. Look for them on shelves and in stores by the end of the month. You an see a few select photos below and the full gallery after that.
