Storm Collectibles Mortal Kombat Noob Saibot – Toyark Photo Shoot

By Joe Moore on September 8, 2017 at 8:50 am under Random Photo Shoot, San Diego Comic Con, Video Game Toy News

Last month, I took a look at the first two Storm Collectibles Mortal Kombat Figures; Sub-Zero and Scorpion. Today, I’m continuing with the latest release, the San Diego Comic-Con 2017 Exclusive Noob Saibot. In the game series, Noob Saibot is Bi-Han, the Sub-Zero from the original Mortal Kombat, killed by Scorpion in the tournament. He is resurrected as Netherrealm wraith by the sorcerer Quan-Chi. Originally the character was merely a shadowy version of the Sub-Zero sprites, the character was eventually fleshed out in the story, and given a proper, unique look. The figure, a repaint of the same mold used for Sub Zero and Scorpion, includes many of the same interchangeable parts and accessories as Scorpion. Two new blood effects pieces were added to this release. The figure stands nearly 7″ tall.

Bluefin, the North American distributor of the Storm Collectibles figures, has sent along the Noob Saibot 1/12 Scale Figure for us to check out. After the jump, find my thoughts on the release as well as a full gallery.

Storm Collectibles Mortal Kombat Noob Saibot 1/12 Scale Figure

Pros

  • Excellent sculpt
  • Great articulation and range of motion
  • Strong joints allow for dynamic posing with no stand needed
  • Fatality effects pieces and spears among the great accessories here
  • Interchangeable MK1 and MK2 masks
  • Skull head sculpt even has an articulated jaw
  • Blood effects pieces included
  • Hands seem less likely to pop off compared to previous figures

Cons

  • Could have used more unique accessories

Overall
The Noob Saibot packaging uses the same collector friendly box style as Sub-Zero and Scorpion. The differences are the artwork, photos and bio have been replaced with Noob Saibot themed items. Included along side the figure are multiple interchangeable hands, swappable MK1 and MK2 masks, an interchangeable skull head sculpt, a thrown spear, fatality flame effects pieces and two blood effects pieces. One piece can attach to the neck, while the other can attach to a head sculpt.

Aside from the color differences, not much has changed between Scorpion and Noob Saibot. The mold, articulation and accessories are nearly identical. The only difference is the peg that connects the hands to the wrists. The ones with Noob do not have the joint, so they only offer swivel articulation. The trade of is that the hands are now much better connected and don’t pop off near as much. Aside from that, everything else functions the same. The sculpt is excellent and there’s a great range of motion in the joints. The thrown spear attaches the same was as Scorpion’s and the skull and flame fatality effects look essentially the same. The interchangeable masks swap out easily as do the hands. So what is new here? For starters, Storm offers a surprisingly detailed paint deco for a character who’s mostly black. The arms and hands are all cast in a dense, darkly translucent plastic that offers some nice contrast against the starker black of the outfit. Each different section is cast in a slightly different shade of black, keepign the figure from looking too bland. It’s a subtle, but effective difference between the areas. The main attraction here will be the blood effects pieces that are included. There are two pieces that are perfect for recreating decapitation fatalities. The larger piece attaches to the neck ball joint on the figure itself. The smaller piece has a ball joint of its own, and attaches to the head sculpts of the figures. They work well and look great.

If you’re a big fan of the line, then Noob Saibot is worth tracking down. Some may not consider it an essential pick up, or may be put off by aftermarket pricing, and the figure could be skipped for those. The blood effects pieces are what fan will want, and there’s no word if they will be repacked with different figures in the future. Check out some highlight photos below and the full gallery after that.
