Now available in stores is the Child’s Play – Chucky Mego Style Figure by NECA Toys. This 5.5″ tall figure features a a highly poseable figure, a cloth outfit, rooted hair and numerous weapons. This version of Chucky is based on his look in the original Child’s Play film. In the movie, a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray transfers his soul into the body of a popular “Good Guy” doll as he dies. The doll makes its way to Andy, a young boy who witnesses the murderous nature of Chucky and whose fate becomes intertwined with the doll for much of his life. The NECA figure comes packaged in a resealable clamshell backer.

Overall
Chucky, like many of NECA’s Mego releases, comes packaged in a resealable plastic clamshell. Simply slide a box cutter or sharp razor blade between the two pieces to cleanly cut the notches and the packaging will remain very clean. The cardback features new artwork from Jason Edmiston. The real draw of the packaging, though, is the inclusion of the Good Guy Doll box seen in the movie. This packaging within packaging actually works perfectly, and the Good Guy box functions o nits own as a perfect display piece. The Chucky figure includes a baseball bat, voodoo knife, regular knife and a Good Guys hammer.
Of all of NECA’s Mego style releases, Chucky is probably the most perfect fit. The figure is, essentially, a scaled down doll. the cloth outfit, the rooted hair and the type of plastic used all look great here. The figure has a surprisingly great amount of articulation, with a nice range of motion. With the size being fairly small, it keeps the weight of the figure down and made it easy to keep the figure standing, even when posed as if he was walking. The outfit is multi-layered, with separate overalls and shirt. The fabric is nice and loose, which let the joints utilize their range of motion. There’s a lot of attention to detail throughout, with screen accurate printing on the overalls, and Chucky even has the Good Guys logo on the bottoms of his feet. The The head sculpt is a great likeness to Chucky. the paint apps are very clean, with sharp dots for the freckles and clean lines for the details in the eyes. The rooted hair is a nice touch as well. I do feel an extra head sculpt would have been wise here. While I like the angry expression of the sculpt, I’d love to have a more static expression as well. There’s a nice selection of accessories included, and I ran into no issues with Chucky holding them. Again, attention to detail is strong on those, with fine printing used on items like the Hammer and Voodoo knife.
This version of Chucky is an easy recommendation for fans of the film and NECA’s cloth figures. The excellent packaging combined with a strong figure make it a worthwhile addition.
