Star Trek: The Original Series Khan Noonien Singh 1/6 Scale Figure – Toyark Photo Shoot

By Joe Moore on December 13, 2017 at 10:34 am under Random Photo Shoot, Star Trek Toy News

Khan Noonien Singh… For Star Trek fans, both dedicated and casual, the name is instantly recognizable as one of the great adversaries to Captain Kirk and his crew. While Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan solidified his place in the history of great cinematic villains, the film, as we all know, was an amazing call back to the first season of the Star Trek TV Series. In the 22nd episode of the series, we are introduced to Khan and his crew of the Botany Bay, a seemingly lost ship, drifting since the 20th Century. Played amazingly by the late Ricardo Montalban, Khan is both charismatic and dangerous. With the latest 1/6 scale figure release from Quantum Mechanix, fans are treated to a stunning homage to Khan’s debut.

The Star Trek: The Original Series – Khan Noonien Singh 1/6 Scale Figure is available now from QMX. You can purchase the figure direct from them by Clicking Here. The figure is priced at $149.99. It includes multiple interchangeable hands, a crushed phaser, a pipe (for Kirk), and a themed figure stand. QMX has sent along the Khan figure for us to check out. After the jump you can see my photos and thoughts on the new release.

Star Trek: The Original Series – Khan Noonien Singh 1/6 Scale Figure by QMX

Pros

  • Outstanding head sculpt
  • Paint work is handled very well
  • Good articulation
  • Easy to swap out hands
  • Replacement shirt decorations included

Cons

  • A little hard to keep standing

Overall
The new Khan figure is packaged in a special window box with a slip cover. The slip cover features Star Trek themed designs on the front and sides, with a photos of the figure on the back. Once removed, Khan is packed in a window box, showcasing the figure inside. More design Star Trek graphics adorn the packaging here, with an alternate photo of Khan on the rear of the box. Inside, the figure sits in a plastic tray along with the accessories. Included are five additional interchangeable hands, an engineering rod, a crushed phaser, and a figure stand. QMX also include two replacement pieces for the adornments on the front of Khan’s jumpsuit (should they happen to get damaged).

Right out of the box, the new Khan figure is impressive looking. Fans who have previously picked up figures like Kirk or Spock will be happy to know the same level of detail is present here. Khan has an outstandingly sculpted portrait, with a nice likeness to actor Ricardo Montalban. The paint work is quite impressive here, with very life-like skin tones, complete with small splotches and glossed eye paint. The same painting style is carried over to the various hands, and they did a solid job match colors between all of the separate pieces.

Khan is presented in his red military jump suit. The thread used here is very small, making for an outfit that doesn’t feel oversized at all. QMX has some nice gold additions to the outfit, with sculpted adornments on the collar, front of the shirt and cuff links. The figure also has a black and gold belt that wraps around a surprisingly noticeable paunch. The boots are great looking, as QMX opted for leather-like material as opposed to straight plastic. This decision, though, does make it a little hard to stand Khan. The included figure stand will ensure it doesn’t tumble from your shelf though. Articulation is solid here, with somewhere around 30 points of articulation. Range of motion is excellent, and the outfit doesn’t hinder joint movement. Hands swap out very easily, but snap nicely onto the wrist pegs.

Khan is very solid release from QMX. It’s a nice precursor to their upcoming Star Trek II Khan figure, and pays homage to one of the great early episodes of the Star Trek franchise. It’s a great companion piece to their Kirk figure as well, and perfect for recreating fight scenes between the two. Check out some highlight photos below and the full gallery after that.
