As someone who does a lot of photo shoots, I always appreciate when toy companies include diorama pieces, or release their own dioramas for collectors to display their figures. Over the years, NECA has released numerous dio pieces and small displays for their figure lines. From Freddy’s Boiler, to the Predator Trophy Wall, and the recent Alien vs Predator Column, the accessories make for fun displays, and even better photo shoots. Their newest diorama pieces come as a large set of multiple items from the Friday The 13th film franchise. With the Friday The 13th – Camp Crystal Lake Accessory Pack, fans get the iconic Camp Crystal Lake sign, a dock, and a rock and sign display base to recreate the drowned Jason Voorhees from Jason Lives. These pieces are scaled to work with their 7″ scale Jason Voorhees figures.

Overall
Packaged in an eye-catching windowless box, the Camp Crystal Lake set features great original artwork, and a clever cork board display on the back. The whole package works nicely as a fun homage to the campground. The diorama pieces sit in a plastic tray held in by some plastic strings and tape. The parts can be easily removed and placed back in for storage. Included is a dock with a lamp post and two posts, the Camp Crystal Lake sign with a (faux) wood frame and two small stands for the frame, and a sunken rock and Camp Blood sign with a chain attachment and pole.
Each one of the diorama pieces require a quick bit of assembly. While there’s no instructions included, they aren’t really needed. Pieces fit together perfectly and everything will be ready for display within a minute or so. Most of the pieces are constructed out of a nice hard plastic, save for some of the extra thing pieces, like the lights. When together, the pieces are fairly sturdy. Included are two small plastic stands that attach to the Sign wood frame to help it from tipping over. The dock can easily support the weight of a Jason figure without any bowing or bending. It’s light weight and just the right size to fit on most shelves. The rock and chain piece works extremely well. The plastic pole attaches to the back of the rock, and slips under the back of Jason’s shirt, setting him at a perfect height to make the chain look nice and taut. You will need to pop Jasnon’s head off the peg to slip the chain around his neck. When together, this became my favorite display piece of the entire set.
Sculpted details are great throughout. Wood pieces have a nice sculpted wood grain to them, and other pieces all look nice and detailed where needed. The paint work on the two signs is spot on, and the wood pieces have multiple layers of color to give a natural wood look to them. It’s a shame that the lights don’t work on the dock or the sign. That would have really set these over the top (and made for more fun shooting). Also, the two small chains that hold the sign to the wood frame tend to pop off pretty easily. They tend to slip off when moving the sign around, or if a figure happens to tip over into the sign, it can send those small chain flying.
Those are small nitpicks of a great display set. The various Jason figures look great with them, and it’s going to be a lot of fun using them for future Jason photo shoots. If you’re into toy photography, or want to spice up your Friday the 13th display, then this is absolutely a must buy. Check out some select photos below and my full gallery after that.
