Mezco‘s horror themed One:12 Collective line gets a little extra groovy with the release of the Evil Dead 2 – Ash Williams One:12 Collective Figure. Hitting stores late last Fall, the 1/12 scale Ash figure is packed with movie themed accessories. Some of those pieces include swap out hands, a chainsaw, a boom stick, a severed Deadite Henrietta head and more. We grabbed the figure from Toyark sponsor Entertainment Earth. Overall
The Ash figure comes packed in a collector friendly window box, complete with a sleeve cover. It’s the sleeve that showcases a bit of art for Evil Dead, as well as photos of the figure and included accessories. It’s a basic package used in all of the One:12 releases, and will fit perfectly with any sealed collection of their figures. Ash sits in a plastic clamshell tray. The figure includes two Ash portraits, a Deadite Ash portrait, a severed Deadite Henrietta head, a severed Deadite hand, two interchangeable hands, a chainsaw hand, a shotgun, a Necronomicon, and a figure stand.
As part of the One:12 Collective line, Ash stands over 6.5″ tall, with a cloth outfit. The outfit is loose enough that it doesn’t hinder the range of motion of the figure. Ash has about 28 points of articulation. There’s no problems with the joints here. Since paint itself is fairly light on the body itself, there’s no real chance of the joints locking up.The areas that are painted are done so with great care. The chainsaw, especially, is great looking. The included hands and portraits all swap out very easily, but have a nice “snap” to them when connecting them to the figure. The chainsaw hand actually slides up the arm a bit, as opposed to snapping onto the the wrist peg. The shotgun can be placed in the holster on Ash’s back, and the included hands hold each of the items without much trouble. The Henrietta head and Ash’s severed hand make nice additions, but I do wish there was an easy way to display the severed head without just laying it on the ground.
The overall look of the figure is nice and does a decent job of representing Ash in the style. It’s not a perfect representation though. The head sculpts, while quite amazingly sculpted and painted, just don’t resemble a young Bruce Campbell that much. That’s a bit of a let down, especially because of how much detail they packed into these portraits. The outfit could also use a bit of extra wear and tear.
In the end, it comes down to what you want from the figure. If you are a NECA collector, then you likely have a more accurate version of Ash. If you’re more into the One:12 scale and style, then this is a good, if not a bit flawed, version of Ash. It’s fun to pose and does look solid in hand.
