A new 1/12 action figure line is live on Kickstarter – Plunderlings! These little guys are goblin pirates, looking like a cross between a goblin and Stitch. Each are fully articulated with all the points modern 1/12 collectors desire. The base model has minimal clothing, where additional characters expand on clothing and accessories as you move up the line. It’s being developed by folks that have been in the industry for a while in different forms, along with an animation studio based in the Dominican Republic, something you don’t see every day.
The world of Plunderlings is developed Ricky Gluski and Andres Rodríguez with Lone Coconut, which is a creative, animation and visual effects studio based in the Dominican Republic. But we are first and foremost toy collectors and enthusiasts that for many years felt that we had an impish shaped hole in our collections. We loved many of the classic toy lines of the 80’s and wanted to bring that sense of excitement, adventure and passion to the project. We have been collaborating with a number of industry veterans to bring this project to life – including Jason Bienvieu from Spero toys as a project advisor, Chris Gawrych who has worked with NECA and Four Horsemen Studios as our production coordinator. Our figures are designed by the talented Seba Dom, accessories by GD Lake and hats modeled by Fabiano Carlos, sculptor for McFarlane Toys.
The goal is $65,000, and they already passed the half way mark 3 days in. The line looks great and I think it will really shine once it hits production level. The simplistic and colorful nature of the figures will work well with solid color plastic. If you are interested in supporting the project, you can check it out here:
