Arkham Asylum Batman and Joker DC Multiverse by McFarlane Toys Gallery

Things have been a bit busy here with galleries lately, but today we are taking a look at one of the recent McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse rounds – Arkham Asylum Batman and Joker. Both are 7 inch scale and are based on the original Arkham Asylum video game. I have to say, at Toy Fair, in press releases, and when I saw in package even here in hand, I wasn’t super duper excited. DC Collectibles did some pretty good Arkham stuff back in the day. HOWEVER, once I opened these guys up things changed.

Both of these are more streamlined than previous DCC figures, less washing and detailing with paint. But that doesn’t mean these are raw plastic. They actually do have significant paint and fine tuning throughout. Batman’s face is painted, eyes are crisply applied to the cowl. The Joker has multiple paint colors applied to the suit along with some wash. The Joker’s head is very stark white, something we aren’t used to with Arkham figures and the head sculpt is a bit softened, almost like it’s based on a cartoon version of the game model. But it does have a paint base, and sharp digital paint for the mouth and eyes. In hand, they look and feel good. They are deceiving in their simplicity. While they don’t capture that gritty rawness of the game on quick glance, they are well executed, refined figures in hand. Articulation range, even on Joker’s slender suit body is there. As with most so far, Batman still has the single jointed elbow which is a point off with the judges here. :)

Bottom line – good figures. Not quite as good as the White Knight figures we looked at a couple weeks ago now, but good. If you consider them just standard alt-suited entries for a Joker and Batman, without making them a definitive representation of the Arkham series, they work. Check them out close up before you decide, worth a second look beyond the online images.
