TMNT 1990 Movie – Casey Jones and Raphael 2-Pack by NECA – Toyark Photo Shoot

In the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 Movie, Raphael heads out on town to blow off some steam and clear his head. While out, he runs into vigilante Casey Jones taking down a couple of young purse snatchers. Taking issue with how badly Casey is roughing up the kids, Raph steps in to give the punks a chance to escape. None too pleased with the would-be criminals getting away, Casey takes on Raphael in a semi-friendly bit of combat. The fight goes back and forth, with Raphel’s identity being revealed as a Turtle in disguise. While fighting, Casey eventually gets the upper hand and runs off.

NECA has released a 2-pack celebrating this fan favorite scene from the film. Today we have a gallery and review of the set, which was provided by our friends at NECA. The Casey Jones and Raphael 7″ Scale Figure 2-Pack is a Walmart exclusive release in the US (and more widely available internationally). The set has been released, though it has proven tough to find for fans. They have said that more are shipping to stores, so hopefully fans that venture out have a bit of luck.

• Has proven hard for fans to track down

Overall
The Casey Jones and Raphael 2-Pack comes packaged in a collector friendly window box. It features a number of design elements from the movies promotional posters on the front. The back showcases the two figures, and some of their accessories. The figures sit in a plastic tray, held in by a few twist ties. Casey Jones includes multiple interchangeable hands, two baseball bats, two hockey sticks, a golf club, a cricket bat, and a carrying bag. Raphael includes a removable coat and hat, a backpack, multiple interchangeable hands, three swappable bandanas, a slice of pizza, and two sais.

Casey Jones is one of the most anticipated releases in NECA’s TMNT movie line, and combining him with a Raphael in disguise figure is a great way to get both figures out. Casey Jones is an all-new sculpt, with some of the best articulation in the line. The double jointed elbows go a long way to allowing him to naturally hold his weapons. The sculpt here is fantastic, with noticeable different textures on the jacket, shirt, and sweatpants. Chest and arm hair are even sculpted on. The head sculpt does a fantastic job of bringing the masked Casey Jones to life in figure form. Hands swap out easily, and none of the joints had any issues. Paint work is really solid here, with clean paint lines, and different washes used throughout to add depth to the sculpted details. There is a fully sculpted face under the mask, though the mask is not meant to be removed. An unmasked head is definitely missed here. At the time of production, an agreement couldn’t be reached with actor Elias Koteas for his likeness rights. However, it sounds like he’s game for it, but as of early July, no plans were finalized between Elias and NECA.

The Raphael figure is pretty much the same figure that most fans will have. However, it does appear that the head sculpt has been updated with a different expression than previous releases. The trench coat used is fabric, while the backpack and hat are softer plastic. The coat can easily be removed for a standard Raph figure to have on display. The movie Turtle sculpt still holds up very well, with sculpting and paint work looking fantastic. Hands and the bandanas all swap out without any trouble. All-in-all, Raphael is still an excellent figure, and the additional pieces basically make the figure as complete as you could want.

The set is an excellent overall release. It features two great figures, and a number of display options thanks to all of the included accessories. As more stock hits stores, it will hopefully be easier to come across for fans looking for it. Check out a selection of photos below, and the full gallery after that.
