DC Multiverse Endless Winter Gallery - Frost King, Aquaman, Black Adam and More - The Toyark

Another round of DC Multiverse is up for a look today with the Endless Winter Build-A wave. Plus Aquaman. The wave consists of Batman and Wonder Woman in arctic gear, Green Lantern Jon Stewart, and Black Adam. Each come with a part of Frost King, the big baddie from that story arc. In addition, a single packed Aquaman was released featuring is look from the Endless Winter books, but does not have any Build-A parts. We’ve run the figs for a set of basic and fancy pants shots, so read on to check them out along with some quick thoughts on each, courtesy of McFarlane Toys! Overall Thoughts

Solid Wave. It scores points for sticking with a theme and getting right to the meat of it in one go. The story is recent, so old school fans might not be up on it, but the wave still delivers on a couple standard looking characters. Green Lantern is a re-release of the one from a while back, he has a new head with more of a military cut, and comes with book-specific constructs in the swords. Aquaman, while not part of the Build-A wave, is accurate to that book and gives us a modern yet classic look. These two are exactly what I am looking for in DC Multiverse. Black Adam is technically in that boat, but the head sculpt is a bit weird to me. It doesn’t quite match the book, and it almost has an animated vibe to it. Plus, the physique is a bit small for what I expect in Black Adam and Shazam. The painted heads on this wave are well done overall, on all of them. When paint can be applied to skin areas, it’s a plus.

Batman and Wonder Woman – These are very specific to the books. I feel like we are getting into 90s Kenner zone with all the Batman’s and his crazy outfits. It is theme accurate tho, and the sculpt is sharp. Wonder Woman – sculpt is great, but the color blocking and execution seems off to me. Feels half done. I think a metallic shimmer on the yellow parts, and a bit of blue variation on those areas, with maybe a wash, could have helped this immensely. The red also has a slight pinkish hue, a darker maroon would have worked here. Head sculpt and paint is fantastic though. While talking about Wonder Woman – please give us the Aquaman equivalent of her. Modern-yet-classic. Nothing story specific. Thanks. :)

Frost King – I assume this is what drew Todd to doing this. A big icy spiky sword wielding monster. Looks like he could be in Game of Thrones or even the Spawn Universe. It’s well sculpted, well painted, good use of translucent plastics. I had issues keeping the legs plugged into the torso though, they kept popping out when posing. When all is working properly, it’s solid – full range of articulation so you can’t even tell it’s a BAF.

Bottom line, good thematic wave. If you dig the books or visuals, worth a pick up. Aquaman is the winner though, he’s sharp AF.
