Nosferatu Spinature Mini Bust – In-Hand Photo Shoot

The newest addition to the Spinature line up is now available to pre-order from Waxwork Records. You can now order the Nosferatu “Count Orlok” Spinature. If you’re not familiar with the Spinature line, they are a series of mini busts that can also act as record player spinners. Each one stands about 4″ tall. We’ve previously shared photo galleries for Frankenstein’s Monster, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Live, Michael Myers, H3 Skeleton Masked Child, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and two more from Halloween 3.

The new bust is based on one of the original horror icons, Count Orlok from Nosferatu. The film was an unofficial Dracula adaptation by F.W Murnau, which was released in 1922. The release resulted in a massive copyright infringement case back in the 1920’s. Since adaptation rights were never granted, Bram Stoker’s widow sued the producers of the film. With the court siding with the Stoker estate, all copies of the film were to be destroyed, and the film was nearly deleted from cinema history. A single copy of the movie surfaced in the US in 1929, which had already deemed the Dracula novel as public domain. Nosferatu found new life when Bram Stoker’s Dracula became fully public domain in the 1960’s. The movie is available on about 20 streaming services (many completely free), so it’s easy enough to watch if you’ve never seen it.

Overall
The new Nosferatu Spinature comes packaged in a small window box. The collector friendly packaging matches the style of the previous Spinatures, so they will look perfect together. The packaging allows you to place the figure back inside for storage or display. The mini bust sits in a plastic tray, and does away with twist ties, so there’s less waste. No assembly is required.

The bust itself is a great addition to a horror shelf. For it’s size, the detail work is excellent. There’s great attention paid the to the texture of his coat, and the wrinkles of his face. While his fingernails are long, the construction is sturdy, and never felt like it was in danger of breaking. Past busts have felt a bit stylized, with a slightly larger head, but this one seems to get away from that a bit. For the head sculpt, they seem to have went with a more of an interpretation, rather than trying to do a straight match to the movie. The result is just as creepy as you’d want it to be.

For the relaunch of the line, Waxwork has added a display base to the bust, which brings additional details to it. Sitting on the base are two creepy rats, paying homage to the Death Ship from the film. Paint work is strong, with a nice, low saturation paint deco. There’s just a hint of blue throughout, giving it a nice eerie look. Detail lines look nice and sharp, and the dry brush style accents work nice to make the sculpted details pop.

Nosferatu is one of those films that ate away at me. The movie itself holds up amazingly well, with some outstanding set pieces for its time, and a perfectly cast Max Shrek as the vampire. The high grain and low detail of the surviving film stock only adds to the chilling atmosphere. Your experience will vary greatly depending on the transfer you watch, and the score that accompanies it (the original score no longer exists). The “A Symphony of Horror” version is probably the most common.

I’ve enjoyed the entire line of Spinatures so far. I display a few of them on my work desk since they don’t eat up too much space. I will pop one onto my record player occasionally, since that’s right next to me. The Nosferatu is up there with the Bride as one of the best in the line (the Creature from the Black Lagoon will forever be my favorite one).
