NECA Tooy Terrors – NES Friday the 13th Jason Voorhees Figure

Back in September of 2019, NECA announced NES video game versions of their Toony Terrors Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger figures. However, just about 24 hours later, the figures were cancelled. At the time, rights disputes for both characters came to light, as the writers/creators of the original characters were able to reclaim copyright on the first films in those franchises.

In the case of Freddy, the estate of Wes Craven was able to successfully reclaim the rights to the original A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984). This has essentially left that character in limbo, as new licensed merchandise outside of DVD, apparel, and music has been limited.

As for Jason Voorhees, a years long lawsuit over the rights to the original film between writer Victor Miller and director Sean Cunningham. The claims resulted in lawsuits and counter-suits over direct control of the film. Eventually, Victor Miller was awarded ownership (in the US) of the first film. Since then, the “Jason Universe” was announced, which sees Miller team up with Horror, Inc. to launch new Friday the 13th related projects.

Which brings us to today’s news. NECA has revived their video game series Jason Voorhees Toony Terrors 6″ Scale Figure. Pre-orders are expected to go live on January 13th (sadly not a Friday). The figure includes an axe accessory. See images and additional details below.
