The Toyark is a reader supported website. We pay the bills through advertising and affiliate links. We do not sell or share your data. We do not run ads that specifically target you individually. All advertising is general and based on the themes of the website (toys, action figures, etc).
We have several ways of doing this:
Direct sponsors. We have agreements with these retailers or manufacturers to display banners for them, post information updates, and include their links whenever we promote that new items are up for sale. If you see a post under the Sales, Deals and Sponsor Updates category, the links to retailers there are usually because we have an arrangement with them. We do our best to clarify what posts and links are being done because of sponsor arrangements. If you see the word sponsor in the title or the post, it means we have a paid arrangement with them.
Direct sponsors – Newsletters and Sponsor Links. To be even more clear – whenever we post links out to new items that get revealed, usually for pre-order, we promote our sponsors if possible. We will clarify that within the post when we do. We also post newsletter updates from our sponsors, which will be an entire post just about updates for the sponsor. Usually they are retailers, so this will include links to products for sale on their website. Sponsor / Newsletter updates are usually only done because of the sponsor arrangement.
Affiliate Links. These are links out from Toyark to another website which contains additional information in the link letting the other website know we sent you there. If you then buy something, we get compensated for it. Our outbound links do not include any specific information on you personally. Just that Toyark sent you there. We currently use affiliate links for Amazon, eBay, Entertaiment Earth, and Gamestop (5/9/21). We will update that list if it changes. All outbound links to these places will have additional Toyark code applied to it. We will mark posts which have these links with the phrase “Contains Affiliate Links” at the top of the post along with the other post-specific information like categories, date, time, etc.
Affiliate Links – Sidebar Areas. You may see blocks showing products on the sidebar from Amazon, eBay or other outlets. These links will contain code that let the other website know we sent you there. These are hand crafted based on products or keywords which we feel is relevant to the site. It does not read your personal information in any way to to decide which items are displayed.
Additional Notes:
There are times when our sponsors or affiliate partners are creating industry news that we would cover regardless of them being a sponsor. We will still do our best to clarify the relationship when that happens.
We’ve always tried to balance advertising and content here. We don’t like pop ups, we don’t like ads being displayed that have nothing to do with the site. We don’t like ads coming from other places that we don’t control. The above methods are what we think balances out the need to pay the bills, keeps things looking streamlined, and your privacy.
