Eric Lam
The just announced Third (or really Forth, I suppose) Ghostbusters Minimate Box-Set is amazing enough as it is, but is there any way you could include with an extra “Gooey Peter” head or at least a Peter hair piece with a white dob on it? Since everyone should have a couple extra Ghostbuster bodies lying around from the TRU waves and Peter only had a little marshmallow in his hair at the end of the film, that one extra piece would be the perfect way to finish off the “Gooey variants” set! DSTChuck: Eric, we’re considering that the third set. The idea with that was to finish the gooey set and give collectors and fans of the show a chance to round out their set of really key characters from the first movie. Peter does not really get pelted with “goo” so he was an easy choice to leave out. We’ve heard the head piece idea and it’s something we’ve considered as well but we’ll just have to wait and see if its something we can manage. Julian Martinez Hey I have a couple of questions 1. Will you guys ever try to make Minimates shorter? 2. What happened to the whole AVP Minimates rumor? 3. Are there gonna be more Through The Ages sets? 4. Are you looking to many popular franchises that you know us Minimates addicts will love? DSTChuck: 1. Some Minimates like Robin are shorter, but for Marvel we’re sticking with the two-inch body. 2. I think it was just something from a past Q&A when fans asked if we’d be looking at the property and I think my response was if we did look at them it would be when the franchises were re-launched. 3. We look at lots of themes for the box sets and while Logan works real well for that theme I think others might as well, so we’ll have to see. 4. Yes. Alex Sandoval Why did you invent minimates? DSTChuck: Alex that’s a good question but a LONG story. SHORT version (I’ll save the long one for my book) is Digger from AA was so inspired by what Medicom in Japan was doing that he tried to make something very much like it that showed the essence of the character in a small scale. Some of the designs and licenses were not the best and the line kind of hung out there until we got together with them and our Marvel license and after some design refinements over the years and you see what you see today. We’re SO very pleased with the support the fans have show this line as well as all the contributions of the designers and staff that have worked to make this line what it is today. Jay Kenoyer For the love of GOD, would you PLEASE sell “ARMY BUILDERS” minimate packs?!!! 2 or 4 packs of Shield soldiers, AIM agents, Doombots, Multiple Men, zombies, ghosts and Ultrons. My son is 11 years old and we’ve been collecting minimates for about 5 years. Ever since Doombots came out he has been asking for duplicates. Now that you have Shield and AIM (which you have a battle royale pictured on your minimate insert), he keeps asking why you don’t sell them in packs? Easy money people. Keep us collecting!! Wal mart exclusive? Toys R Us exclusive? Internet exclusive? Thanks, Jay Kenoyer DSTChuck: Jay to be honest I think we’re really happy with how the army builders works as specialty store exclusives as part of the short packs. They are out there for fans that want them and it means you don’t end up with doubles you don’t want if you buy a full set. I’m not saying we’ll never do them with Marvel but to date we’ve done very limited numbers of the army dumps and they have done fair - so it’s very possible that some day we would with Marvel Universe but I can’t say yes right now. Chris Cramer I was wondering if you guys know if anymore Series 28 of the Marvel Minimates will be produced and/or shipped out? DSTChuck: Chris I am sorry but all series of MM in that exact format are one time production runs. Sometimes the characters come back or the figure could end up in another store’s mix but we do not re-run series. Minifiend UK Having been following Minimates from the start I see you have a trend of releasing movie minimates based on Marvel movies (Spider-Man / Hulk / Iron Man.) I have started to see other figures previewed based on Iron Man armor from the new Iron Man movie due next year. Will you be following up your moviemates with Iron Man 2 and would they be released in time for the movie? DSTChuck: Yes we have a pretty well rounded line-up planned in support of IM2. All signs point to having them in time for the movie. Marvel and the producers have been fantastic with support and reference so we’re in the best shape we’ve ever been. Ryan Sawyer I just purchased a Bullseye/Moonstone two-pack from Toys R Us and the Bullseye had two left legs. It was obviously not tampered with before I bought it, and the right leg has paint on the back (which would be front of a left leg). I have like forty Minimates and have never seen something like this, I was wondering if you could help me. DSTChuck: Sure contact customer service and if they have the spare part they will be happy to send it to you, though we may be out of replacement parts for some of the more hard-to-find Minimates like Bullseye & Moonstone. Bob Jameson Hey Chuck! I was wondering if we’ll ever see The Beatles Minimates? It would be one of your bestsellers! Just think, one box set for each album! I’d buy everyone of them! Thanks! DSTChuck: You know its funny you should ask, we looked at the Beatles very seriously a few years ago- based on the animated looks of the band members. Apple decided they did not like that they were not sculpted likeness heads and passed on the category. (just one of the funny inside MM stories that are out there) It’s been years but we’ve never gone back to them to see if they changed their minds but we might someday if the cards line up. Joshua Hesselgrave Hi Chuck. I have a couple general questions and a Minimate related one. First, since there’s a lot of repeated questions in the Q&A blogs, have you guys considered adding a FAQ section to the site? I know it doesn’t mean everyone will read it before asking a previously asked question, but it might cut down some of the repeated stuff. Also, you frequently mention contacting customer service about having missing parts. I had a few issues with some Minimates recently and never received replies to my e-mails-is there a better way to make a request other than the contact info. I also had to wonder if I didn’t receive a response because there was no replacements available. Is that something that happens? Finally, is there ever a chance of seeing Minimates with six arms (such as Spiral or mutated Spider-Man)? I’d love to see something like this, but wondered if that could ever happen on a Minimate body. Once again, thanks for always taking my money.-Joshua DSTChuck: I do try and delete the repeats but it seems fans are clever and try to re-word things so I have to answer again. A FAQ might be cool but I think it would only make sense to certain hard core fans. A FAQ that said NO we’re NOT going to make more Street Fighter would seem odd to someone on the outside or even worse. Please stop asking for Kang, we heard you… I am very sorry if you have not heard from CS, even if we do not have the part and yes that does happen sometimes- we’re supposed to reply. We made a couple changes in marketing recently so hopefully that will help in many cases speed the response. It is a small crew over there (two people) but they are supposed to respond in a timely manner. Right now there are no plans but I think DST Robert has an idea how he’d do it if I let ever let him. Joshua Knobel Hello Art Asylum. My name is Joshua, and I am a huge fan of the Marvel MiniMates! When will the Toysrus wave 5 come into stores? I got my eyes on the following packs from that set. 1, Iron Man and Titanium Man 2, Silver Surfer and Swordsman 3, House Of M SpiderMan and Scorpion DSTChuck: Joshua, TRU 5 should be in stores now as well as 29&30 in comic stores PLUS a couple box sets, some Ghostbusters and T2 - sorry about that…when it rains it pours. Adam Alexander Never hurts to ask my mother always taught me. 1. Do we have any updates on the Battle Beast front or any hints about them? 2. What is the likelihood of maybe seeing a revamp of the Back to the Future Minimates especially sets 1 and 2 maybe in a collector set or new packaging, they are virtually impossible to get and I know they would sell well today 3. Any updates on the release of Beverly Hills Cop? 4. Any hints on any new fresh TV or movie Minimates lines I know there upfront questions but excitement is what makes the world go round!!! your friend and collector Adam DSTChuck: You have a very smart mother. 1. We are working on some stuff with BB but nothing we are ready to show yet. 2. I know there is lots of demand for the first set, I’d not heard the same for the second set. It is very possible we will do something for the 25th in 2010 but nothing is decided yet. 3. Beverly Hills Cop is on hold with no release date planned. 4. We’ve got some very cool irons in the fire but nothing for sure - yet. Hopefully we’ll have some cool stuff in time for Toy Fair. Jerrod Street I love all the Marvel Minimates series but is there anyway that you will update some of figures from the earlier series like king pin or daredevil ( in red suit ). To add more detail. Thank you, love what you are doing. DSTChuck: That’s a good question. Some of us that work on MM like the more simple look and try to keep the line focused on that. While others are big fans of the new detail and features. I guess that’s something we’ll always have to deal with. We’ve updated several other characters in the past so you never know. Roddy Dehart Ever considered a mini-Stargate for Stargate Minimates? IF you do Stargate Universe Minimates with a mini stargate it would be easier to make it spin like on Universe! DSTChuck: We’ve considered Stargate MM many times, we’re just not sure the Stargate fans are Minimates fans- some are of course but are a good percentage of them? From our perspective many of them seemed new to action figures when we introduced that line. Adam Alexander Have there ever been any thoughts on maybe Mortal Kombat vs DC .that would be a pretty awesome Minimates line DSTChuck: DC is very much not a possibility for DST right now, so no we have not. Jim Fink First of all I love the new wave of Minimates coming out and hope Minimates never die from a lack of sales I do have a few questions. 1. I know in the past it was said that sales for an army building set for shield soldiers or aim agents weren’t there but I just saw the helfire club guards and I already know I need at least 8 of them for my wolverine to dismember. is there a way to offer the hellfire club guards for sale just from this website? I wouldn’t need any packages or any of the inserts. I would pay the retail price just like if it was a 2 pack. I’m always reading the message boards and there always seems to be a fan asking if it’s possible to do an army building set and I really think they would sell or even at the least it would make a lot of collectors happy that it was tried. is there any way to get just army building mates with out buying the 2 packs and having 10 cyclops 2. I have a hard time locating minimates I do find them at toys r us and I do order cases from my comic shop, but are there other retailers that carry them? I know a few years ago I saw some at walmart and target and even my local Walgreen’s had a few but I can’t find them anywhere. is there a way to post a list of the retailers who carry them? barring comic shops of course. 3. saw the new spider man friends and foes and I love it. will spider man come with web lines? it seems i haven’t seen a spider man web line since series 4. keep up the good work! DSTChuck: Glad to have you part of the club! 1. Glad you like them but I think I address the army builder as best I can a few questions ago. The army collectors are a vocal group but based on the sales for the line overall we just don’t think there is sufficient demand for us to redo the direction we’re taking. 2. Right now Target and Walmart do not carry Minimates but you are correct they have in the past. We’re not saying no to those guys its just that right now they are not interested and we’re happy with the growth and line management we have with TRU. I think if your not having any luck there try online. Action Figure Xpress and StuckAkid have been supporters from the beginning. 3. I’ll have to look into the web lines to be honest I did not notice it had been that long since we included one. 4. We’re doing our best! Dabid Kuhrt Hi– I’m very excited about a lot of upcoming Marvel Minimates product! I love that we are getting modern characters like female Loki, Madrox, Old Man Logan, and more! The modern stuff is something that a lot of companies tend to ignore, so I’m thrilled that it’s getting a lot of love from you guys. Couple questions for you to answer, if you’d be willing: 1) With the release of Swordsman, we have the ENTIRE Ellis Thunderbolts roster except for Songbird. That seems sorta weird to me, as she’s the only founding Thunderbolt on that roster, famous for being playable in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, and notable for being an Avenger. Are there any legal issues or anything creating problems with releasing Songbird? It seems odd to build the whole team but leave out one popular, important member. 2) Since red/blue Warpath is an exclusive to Toys R Us, does that mean we won’t be able to get an X-Force version? I hear X-Force is pretty popular. 3) With the upcoming Jim Lee X-Men wave of Minimates, we will have complete Blue and Gold teams from that era with every single member of the team–except Jubilee. She is also the only X-Men member from that era missing from Hasbro/Toybiz’s Marvel Legends line, and even Bowen Designs’ mini-bust line. As such, if released, Diamond Select would be the first company to EVER complete the Jim Lee X-Men in any form of sculpture. Is Jubilee on your radar? Thank you and please keep putting out so much awesome Marvel product! DSTChuck: Glad you like it. I think from the start with all the DST Marvel products we’ve done we try and mix in the modern with the classic - heck we were so early on our Ultimates bust that I had to work with the artist to show what the back of Iron Mans amour looked like since it had not been shown in the comic at that point. When we plan waves of Marvel we try and leave open spots here and there for new editorial. 1. All in due time my friend! 2. All that means is that figure in that look and configuration can only be found at TRU. 3. It’s arguable that she was on the team and remember she was demoted to the New Mutants. I will say there have been MANY conversations where her name has come up …so you never know.
