Between Mattel's 1:12 line, Funko and Mezco screwing up their 1:18 efforts, and now this, it feels like I'll never have a non-Mego-style Batman collection that manages to be competent or appropriately priced. At best it's one or the other (typically it's neither) and this license deserves better than it's gotten
Only Multiverse figure they did for '66 technically wasn't even based on the show, it was the Arkham Origins interpretation of the suit haha

Ah, then never mind. I can only hope there were bizarre legal hurdles surrounding that decision, because if somebody actually had the thought

Let's finally make a figure from one of the most iconic superhero adaptations of all time, but a bizarre pinhead version from video game DLC
... I think I have an inkling of how Mattel managed to bungle the DC license so hard they couldn't make money off it during the biggest superhero boom ever

In Mattel's defense (God, never thought I'd say that) the fact that the DC shared universe has consistently been the lower performing second banana of the superhero movie world probably didn't help matters either.

Anyway, the scale choice is kind of funny after Todd pissed off so many prior collectors by making the move to 7-inch. I never minded, but it is kinda curious to see them return to 6-inch here.

If we didn't already have the pretty great looking Mezco five points set coming, I would say they should've gone for that scale. Like 6" figures don't lend themselves to the real retro look. At least they didn't just do 5POA 6" figures lol.

Is it still coming though? I had it preordered directly from Mezco with a February-April release window, and haven't heard a peep about it since. I contacted Mezco several times about it and got no response so I just forced a refund

True as that is, even when they were handed gold they managed to spin it back into straw

Look at TMNT or MOTU or Joe: a line can survive on nostalgia alone if the product coming out is what the fans want, or good enough to attract new ones. A '66 line should have been killer, but selling bizarre-looking, softly sculpted figures with no accessories for $2-4 more than NECA or McFarlane figures was inexplicable. There was, what, one '89 Batman figure across their entire range, and it's in the 4" scale they didn't seem to want to make? NECA's '89 Batman still goes for crazy enough amounts that most of the ones online are bootlegs. Did they ever make a Reeve Superman? Like, if the new media is underperforming, you can always bank on childhood memories yet they seemed actively opposed to capitalizing on that

They could have done a "History of Superman" wave with Reeves, Reeve, Cain, Routh, Cavill, with a Kirk Alyn BAF or something and B&W chase figures of Reeves. A Batman wave with '66, '89, Returns, Forever, Begins and TDK, with a Sonar Suit Kilmer as the BAF? The Flash on TV blew up under their watch and they did almost nothing with it. For the biggest show outside of the 4 major networks they made, like, four figures. The show should have had four dedicated waves or its own separate sub-line that went until it started to pegwarm and instead they just twiddled their thumbs. And made two Jesse Eisenberg Luthors

Honest question here: what's the appeal of those, or ReAction, to an adult's hands? Even with my dinky hands, a 1:18 figure barely fills my palm and the style isn't poseable at all. Playmates Trek is the smallest I can go without feeling like I've been ripped off or something, my feelings about the aesthetics aside

Is it because I didn't grow up a Star Wars kid?

That $18 price tag on the figures would be a bitter pill to swallow if I hadn't noped out on this line. Losing an inch of height, half the articulation, and all but the bare minimum of paint to save only 2 bucks? That's just gross

This is feeling like some weird contractual obligation gone awry, or a money laundering scheme in toy form

McFarlane is always over scaled and over priced. Only thing he has done I like are the playsets.

CCC.

McFarlane seems to be trying for a true 1/10 scale while everyone else uses 6'=7" (Diamond aside) so I can give them a bit of slack in the size department, even if that means Patrick Stewart is taller than Schwarzenegger while listed as the same scale. But I don't think their pricing has ever been bad

That they're matching the retail prices of much better funded figures with equally pricey licenses, while being bigger and having more original tooling... that's legit impressive

I checked the Target website this morning and, to my surprise, the figures were listed in stock, so I ordered Batman and Joker. When I checked the site again, they were out of stock again. I know some people had their Batcave/Batmobile orders cancelled, so I was keeping my fingers crossed. Well, I just got notice that my order shipped. So, if anyone is interested, you might want to periodically check the website. You might luck out like I did.
