According to the link below, Comcast is giving their customers a free HDMI cable, but only if they ask for one, and only if the technician is changing out your old component cables.
I for one call shenanigans. When I got my HD box, Comcast sent me their Circuit City techs. They of course recommended an HDMI cable, but told me it would cost $40 for one freakin cable. Luck for me I know about monoprice and bought the cable ahead of time for like 3 bucks. This may or may not be legit, but it definitely never hurts to ask. Comcast Gives Free HDMI |

Cables are a massive rip off. I needed some HDMI and went to every store in town pricing them. The cheapest I found was $45 I wish I could remember the site I ended up ordering from but they where abou $5 each.

Monoprice.com my friend. Best place to get any cable you're looking for.
