Give Catwoman some proper cat ears on that balaclava or whatever the hell it is and it would improve it dramatically.

Riddler is awful, I thought it was a Riddler goon and was quite impressed for a moment.

That theory that Marvel loves their source Material but DC is embarrassed by it seems more true the more DC films we get.

I foresee the bottom shelf of the Walgreens toy aisle for Catwoman and Riddler.

Don't see a bad work from McFarlane, but from the movie designs, I'm eager to bet on the costumes, because it's his beginnings, but they are dropping the ball really hard with the Riddler...

Call me out as old school, against new stuff... whatever.
But now you wrap a bunch of rags around a person's head and call him/her whatever super hero or villain comes to mind?
Yes, I have not seen the movie and cannot judge in that sense, but man... Designs look awful.

Looking at these designs, my impression is that they came from the mind of somebody who isn't a fan. They may never even have cracked a comic book.

I'm bummed. I love me a good Batman figure. This is as disappointing as first sight of the new ship designs for Star Trek Discovery.

Fans & WB: "Hey Todd, we've got Fandome coming up, think you might want to reveal some great new DC figures?"
Todd: "Nah, I'm good, think I'll just reveal some Batman toys"
Fans & WB: "Yeah, but there's so many characters out there... Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Teen Titans... your line has a lot of Batmen... some might say it's 90% Batmen..."
Todd: "Yeah, I'm good, love me some Batman"
Fans & WB: "Really, no other characters, just Batman?"
Todd: "Yup, pretty sure that's why I named it Batman Multiverse"
Fans & WB: "Uh, but it's called... DC Multiverse"
Todd: "Oh... whoops."

I'm actually really excited for the movie. It looks like a nice mix of gritty realism with stylized sets not unlike Batman Begins combined with the Burton films. I'm definitely getting all of these if the movie manages to convince me, though it seems like I'm in the minority here...

For some reason, it really bothers me how Reeves talks about making this movie grounded like never before. As if that hasn't been done. As if 3 whole movies didn't come out grounding and explaining how a Batman could function in the world.

Looking at these designs, it's getting to a point that you're grounding it so much, what exactly is the point? Yes, Batman is a man and has a street level feel, but there is also the fantastical. Draining all of that just makes this so unappealing to me.

That's what I'm saying. Nolan did it so good, there is no more reason to further try and make a "realistic" Batman. But at the same time the producers will milk the concept to try and replicate the formulas success to no end.

And nowadays the movie people have that concept stuck in their head and can't see Batman as anything else but a "real" superhero. And I mean that is part of his appeal, but only when you mix it with the fact that he fights against the most insane, fantastic and corny stuff. Not simple serial killers with a gimmick.

It also makes for boring action figures, as we see here. It's not just McFarlane's usual, well, "underperformance", the designs are lame to begin with.

DC is the one mandating Batman 24/7, not Todd

These figures’ suits look so boring, but I’ll still watch the film once it comes out. Not a fan of any of those uniforms on all The Batman characters.

This is so clearly a different aesthetic from the clean action-oriented Nolan stuff. I'm tired of that being mined too but this feels so largely its own thing. This is very much noir mixed with gothic expressionism.

Yeah, if you happen to be weirdly fixated on scale. A cool-looking toy doesn't deserve to be left unpurchased on the shelf just because of 6-inch supremacist snobbery.

For my money, an eclectic assortment of plastic humanoids of varying sizes, from 2" to 24" (using my own collection as an example) is far more appealing than a rigid assemblage of characters all collected together under the monomaniacal directive that they be all in perfect 1/12th-scale with each other.

Agreed.

I think interviews for the film have stated that the looks for Batman, Catwoman, and Penguin are their prototype looks before they get their final looks. It only makes sense as Batman, Catwoman, and Riddler have all been shown in Year One era stories as wearing variant disguises/costumes, before upgrading to a regular, more mainstream look.

Agreed.
Dude said he was still going to buy the one Batman or whatever, just not collect the whole line because they weren't 6 inch.

Which sounds perfectly sensible to me, nothing wrong with choosing wisely and keeping to a uniform scale for your display instead of a random eclectic Mish mash of figures from buying anything and everything just cause "it looks cool".

Preach! Areas of contrast are a lot more visually interesting. I have it both ways throughout various shelves but tend to get bored of displays quicker when all the figures are uniformly the same height.

I don't see this Zodiac-esque terrorist suddenly prancing around in an ugly gaudy tuxedo. I could see the others possibly upgrading but not Riddler.

Just saw the trailer.... I guess "grim and dark" was the entire mandate. Was hoping for an updated '89 or something, maybe that's what we got & I'm just out of touch with the mainstream, looks like s**t either way as do these designs.

This will be closer in spirit to Batman as a character by focusing on the detective aspects a lot more than 89 IMO. Not everything needs to be all bright and flamboyant, it's nice to actually have something that feels...."heavy".

Huh... didn't think they'd make the Gotham designs look good by comparison. Quite the feat.

Film still looks very promising though. Should still be an interesting, solid movie, but the more I see of these character designs, the more I think it'll be in spite of the designs, but because of them, if the film turns out good.

This. I enjoyed the Nolan trilogy for what it was, but for most of its run, it was definitely going for a more slick and clean modern look. This new movie looks more noir-inspired, and the overall rundown aesthetic of the designs and sets seen in the trailer really capture that. The closest similarity I can see is how it feels like one direction Batman Begins could've taken, but the grimy look is more deliberate here by comparison.

It's hilarious that they see this as being the first realistic take on Batman. As if Gotham and Nolan Trilogy don't exist.

Even the X-men movies in the early 2000s and the Nolan Trilogy and Gotham tried to me more accurate than this.

I get recent stuff turned Riddler into this hardcore murderer but that's just made him feel more and more like modern Joker.

Amazing how Gotham did such a great take on Penguin and Riddler as being more "realistic" and yet this movie is just Guys in Random Outfits They Got From The Thrift Store.

This is a bit of a hot take but I feel like the super gaudy old school Riddler is way more Joker-y than the terrorist we're getting here.

It's funny that people call Gotham realistic when it's probably the most out-there piece of live-action Batman media we've had aside from the DCEU stuff and he never even got anything to himself there.

And yet the "guys in thrift store outfits" IS more realistic than everyone dressing like Bond villains.

I'd suggest reading more on the production of this movie. Reeves is pulling stuff from Ego. Pattinson read a bunch of Batman comics even as they were still filming. Kravitz read Year One. Dano researched puzzles.
